Sorta Dissapointing

The value of a class with 28 recruits ranked 15th in the nation should not be discounted. I feel a little disappointed that our coaches had to work as hard and smart as they did to get it. Their shortcomings during the 2016 season caused their recruiting hardships, at least to some extent, so I hope they are now resolved to prepare players better for the 2017 season. Some folks have made an issue of Auburn and Florida leap-frogging Tennessee, leaving our class ranked 7th in the SEC. Personally, I would not trade our Tennessee class straight up for either of those two. I'd rather have a couple of our under-rated recruits than Florida's five star quarterback, because Tennessee looks good at that position. A small number of the class seem too light to play this fall. but some of the recruits should make an immediate impact. They are all where they need to be and where they want to be. Developing into a great SEC team is a grand thing. I hope they all keep that goal foremost in their minds and never stop pushing themselves until the last whistle of the final game. Best of luck to them all. Go Vols!

Good post, but you are wrong to judge Mac as a coach on the basis of the site's ratings of his recruits. Consider this: Mac's first two classes produced more freshmen all-sec and freshmen all-Americans than Muschamp produced in four higher ranked classes.

To be fair, I am not sure that means a whole lot. Just means that Mac HAD to play them. Most freshman teams are made up of freshmen who played the most.

I don't think that was his point; to be really fair, regardless of the reason or reasons why they played early, the fact that they ended up on All-SEC or All-American lists can be atrributed to one or more of three things.

Some were talented and ready to compete in the SEC right away; essentially destined to be good and the recruitotainment sites pegged them as such... nobody could have missed that they were talented.

Others were not highly ranked at all, but our staff's evaluations disagreed with those of the recruitotainment sites... true diamonds.

And still others were more coachable and were developed faster than anticipated.

I mean we were so beat up by the end of the season we were playing backups and backup's backups at QB, C, DT, DE, MLB, OLB, FS, SS, and nickelback... only place we were truly healthy was RB, WR, TE, CB, and half our OL.

In our bowl game we were using a decimated defense; our starting LB's were a 3rd string guy and a walk-on. To still be able to destroy Iowa 30-3, keep them scoreless for the final 3 quarters, and allow only 226 total yards on the day says a lot about Mac and Co.'s ability to develop even the least talented players on our roster. I think that's what he was trying to say.

Sort of disappointing? LOL.

That was an absolute abortion of a recruiting class.

Tennessee will be having a coaching search in the next few years.

I feel sorry for your family. Being subjected to such negativity on a daily basis must be painful.

I agree with Flowd, I mean for Gods sake you sign 28 total players and 23 are 3 stars????? You absolutely get raped by Clemson as they not only cherry pick your class but stick it to you worse by winning what's supposed our State. And Butch says he wants 5 star hearts? Whatever, let's see those 5 star hearts up against Alabama, Georgia and Florida's 5 star RECRUITS.

Pathetic. You can't take hearing the actual reality of the current state of your beloved Vols football program so you stoop to insulting someone & bringing their family into it?

I can't wait to read your posts throughout the next few seasons. I'm sure you'll show up & continue to post your sunshine bull-s*** as UT football continues to fall back to the Dooley era.

Ray signing with bammer was a disappointment. He is from the state, bammer is bammer, I know, I know. But the young man connected with our team. Our coaches and players wanted him. I wanted him.(no homo) I'm glad Coach Jones went all out to sign him. No complaints here. No guts, no glory.

The recruiting analyst have honed their industry to a science. Their incomes depend on their ability to evaluate these guys.
It is disappointing that this class ranks 14 and 16 (Rivals and 247). Florida ended up with a better class than we did. To be where we want to be I don't think this will cut it. Of course there is the chance that these guys are better than projected and this class is linemen heavy (depth).

I guess time will tell...

Get a life, if you're disappointed about having a top 15-20 class and finishing 9-4 you're just an unhappy person... life's good and we are fine, almost spring and we are alive to watch or care about something as insignificant as Saturday college football in the month of February. Cheer up and enjoy life for Christ sakes!
