That change will be implemented at some point. The other change that almost surely will be implemented is the elimination of the maximum limitation on salaries and wages subject to social security contributions.

I see murdoch is in full incite mode today. That's why smart folks avoid this political version of the oscars and the day after. I think ... probs reagan was the last one of these i watched. I might have watched one of bills, or one of Obamas, but I don't remember. This is when the murdoch papers incite the right for clicks, and msnbc incite the left with "fact checks" that are all different facts. Don't let it get you guys so excited. It really is the oscars, or the grammys for the politicos. "The media" gets to get everyones hair on fire for clicks. Murdoch really should be in prison by now. He is the one spewing russian diarrhea all over America today. It stinks.

It was implemented when I was younger when they raised the full retirement age from 65 to 67. SS doesn't cover near what it used to either when the government decided to make SS COLA adjustments based on the CPI-W instead of the CPI-E like it should be.

Because there is no pot of money sitting there equal to the total inception-to-date contributions into the social security fund (plus accumulated earnings) that could be invested (in the stock market or treasury bills, for example). The money that gets distributed each year is paid-out from the current year contributions paid into the plan.

I understand that. Any privatization would have to be a phase in beginning at say 18 or 20. I understand that the system is basically a ponzi scheme and without the younger generations paying in there is no money to pay the current retirees.

Scared? nnnnnnnnot really. What I am afraid of is a vocal minority running over a majority and getting special privileges. What influence in particular are you speaking of because I find that particular accusation interesting.
