Souce's Coffee Discussion Thread

I’m drinking a Guatemala natural Santa Isabel that I roasted last week. Has notes of white chocolate and raspberry.

I bought a bag of the Dark French Roast to try.
This was on sale at Kroger last week, so I decided to try it. It smells amazing, but the flavor is mehhh. Also, it's ground very fine.

Chocolate coffee? 🤭
It doesn't taste like chocolate, just supposed to have "notes" of chocolate. They just tryin to be fancy...
I’ve had it. It’s decent a little weak for me But I like a strong coffee
I thought the same thing...wasn't strong enough
It actually reminded me of Folgers except a little stronger. 👎🏻
Y'all talking about the Starbucks Italian dark roast?
Ah, I was about to be triggered. I have to have my coffee strong and thats a big reason I like the Italian roast by Starbucks
wtf thief! just bought some at Kroger!
I don't like it!
Do you drink that brand a lot?
no. It was on sale so I figured I would try it
That's the reason I bought it too.
Have you tried it yet????
Not yet. I still have about 2 more portions of my Italian in the freezer. I'll prolly try it Wednesday.
I look forward to it. I like French Roast and I haven't tried anything different in a year or so.
I read conflicting reviews about SB French vs Italian roasts. Some people say the Italian is darker & more intense, but others say the opposite. I'm curious to see what you think.
The Italian is really good IMO. Its deep and rich and gives the house an awesome aroma.

Sometimes I mix an 11 oz. Bag of Starbucks Chocolate Mocha and a 12oz. Bag of the Italian dark. Then I put a teaspoon of Starbucks hazelnut syrup in it. Pfft. Amazing.

For years I liked my coffee strictly black, but I've been enjoying trying different things lately. I put honey in it sometimes instead of the hazelnut. I don't use sugar or creamers. Lol, I want the color to be black.
I used to put all the additives in my coffee, but I drink strictly black now. I spend way too much money on coffee because I like trying different "dark" roasts. I need to find a go-to and stick with it.
Moving this discussion here so it won't be lost.

What is your coffee to water ratio?

I use a rounded half cup measure to half pot (6 cups) of water.
I would say I use a little less coffee than you. I use a rounded tablespoons to 1 cup of water.

Just a hint to even out the bitterness and add a touch of hazelnut scent. I don't even taste the hazelnut flavor. I use a teaspoon in my 16oz. mug I fill about 3/4. So about 12oz.
I actually like the bitterness. Is the Italian roast really bitter? I read it's not...but it may be because you use a lot of grounds.

I like the bitterness too but not too bitter, that's why I said it evens it.

Yes, I think its kinda bitter and probably because I make it so strong.

I had the French Dark this morning @Souce.

Was good. I liked it for a change but I like the Italian much better.

This was bitter but crisp and wasn't as deep and rich. I'm gonna mix my chocolate mocha with it tomorrow. I'm also out of the hazelnut syrup so I used honey.

Chupa gone find Italian tomorrow. She hooked on it and spit the French out. Lulz.

Interesting! Thanks for letting me know. Is the Italian more aromatic too?
