Sousa out as director of the POSL...

I have 4 tickets to the game saturday and I just gave them away. I will not be part of a circus in front of a National TV audience because my University is run by a booger-picker..

This is NOT the way to resolve matters, they are acting more childish than Congress and that is certainly saying something.

So, GO VOLS, i'll be watching on TV until this BS is resolved.

Edit: I should say that I support the Band 10000%, it is one of the best gameday traditions around -- and they should have worked this out behind closed doors, but now that it is public -- YOU WANT A FIGHT UT?? YOU GOT ONE.

like you never picked a booger.....looked all around....and took a nibble to see if they were still as tasty as they were when you were 4...

"Free speech" might be the least understood concept in message board history.

You know, the Supreme Court has "waffled" on the rights of free speech on privately owned property since the 40s. Look up some of their rulings and you don't have a clear consensus...

The Supreme Court has ruled in some cases that privately owned property owners cannot restrict the free speech of citizens when that property exists solely for the purpose of public commerce and trade.

I'd say that pretty much characterizes Volnation...

Nevertheless, I certainly have misunderstood the rights to free speech, but after reading a summary of Supreme Court cases concerning where free speech is allowed and disallowed by private property owners--I'm more confused than ever. And, it seems that no one really knows until it is challenged in court. :salute:

Butch needs to get in this fight. Tradition dictates we never give up on The Pride of the Southland Band in Neyland. Yet, maybe the Pride could play a little less...and....Sousa could learn a little Rap. :)

Butch needs to stay out of this fight and focus on SC.

I didn't hear him go public with anything. I heard his drum major go public after being completely spun up by somebody. Wonder who that could've been?

Those were my first thoughts on this when the petition was going around. This should also speak to the lack of character of Sousa. He used the drum major as a political pawn and essentially had the drum major do the dirty work. Sousa did this in a way that he thought he could wash his hands of this and act like the drum major was acting on their own accord. He's a coward and a slimeball.

This sucks. Sousas a legend

John Phillip Sousa is a legend Gary Sosua was our band director and not a legend. The Pride of the Southland band has been stale and boring under his leadership.

W.J. Julian was a legendary director of bands at UT.

This. It doesn't read "Freedom of speech without consequence."

Well why don't you walk up to a politician or cop and tell them your going to shoot them in the face and see how that goes for you. I bet it doesn't end with them letting you on your way because your just exercising your freedom of speech.

Also its clear this isn't a freedom of speech issue, this is an employee circumventing company policy for their own agenda issue.

What? Is reading comprehension a struggle for you?
