If I was in SA..... I'd be getting the hell out.... it's an epic ****hole full of violent crime.

I remember reading something about how rampant carjackings are there. One guy said he kept a pint of vodka in the glove box laced with either strychnine or cyanide, I can’t remember. The idea being the carjacker would find the vodka, drink it, and die. He had recovered his car twice using that method.

except in this case the fight is literally black and white. not hard to figure out who the "bad guys" are.

True. I was referring more to the overwhelming government power going up against farmers with rifles.

Also in a country where there is a huge mining industry that also happens to work with explosives in those mines.

no, i get that part. but our issue wasn't the farmers or the guns they had.

If it moved into a civil war (unlikely, but the potential is there) such a war could cause serious disruption in the world's strategic mineral prices.

Other than oil, SA pretty much sits on the (no pun intended) gold mine of minerals the modern world needs.

Yes, our interests and well as the other modern nations interests would be threatened over a civil war in South Africa.

This is none of our business...

There is a possibility. Remote, but those pushed hard enough can and will eventually push back. It all depends on the enforcement of this policy.

It would only take a minor disruption in the output of South African mines to cause a global buying panic and prices to skyrocket.

As for preemptive measures, no, let them do what they want. Their country and we should stay the hell out (as they should stay the hell out of our business). But if the world's commodity market gets turned ass over tip over an insurgency or all out civil war, the world should consider options.

The answer is pretty simple. We will have to turn to Russia for some of these strategic metals.

To hell with the African continent. Europe was more than happy to get involved once. Let them hop on in again.

We’ve got enough troops out in the field right now. If anybody comes calling we better tell them to piss off.
