LOL, what does Bezos expect NASA to do? Bezos founded Blue Origin in September 2000, while Elon didn't found SpaceX until May 2002. Blue Origin still hasn't reached LEO with one of their rockets.

And the crazy thing is, Bezos had the capital to blow the socks off SpaceX if they wanted. Money wound not have been a problem hiring brilliant engineers and getting things done.

I think BO is little more than a curiosity for Bezos. I applaud Musk for calling him out in friendly competition. Maybe it'll spur them to speed things up a bit. Facing facts, Blue Origin and SpaceX could bury ULA, Northrop and Boeing in the space launch industry if they wanted.

Bezos is more of an establishment inside the box guy that Musk. He probably looked at BO like he did at Amazon when it started, a multiyear project to get results.

I'd say you probably aren't far off the mark. He is very careful, but at the same time, he has to recognize the fact the space industry is only going to get larger and now is the prime opportunity to get into that market by underbidding the "traditional" crew like SpaceX did. He's still (somewhat) focused on the space tourism side and not as much with the commercial side of things. They very easily get into the heavy launch if they pushed the envelope just a tad.

Again, he's got the money to do it independently even.

I can't see the tourism business being profitable without commercial loads going up with the tourists. Just how many people can pay $100k or more for a vacation?
