Classless a$$wipes in this thread. I would love to come to your work and tell you that you suck at your job and should be replaced by some new guys that have barely learned how to badge in.

:lolabove:

That would be especially funny because you'd likely find them on volnation whining about someone else's job performance instead of doing whatever it is they get paid to do.

Gault averaged almost 4 yards past the line you get the ball if you kneel down.

Young averages 2 yards behind the line where you get the ball if you kneel down on kicks into the end zone.

Also...Gault>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Young.

He has had the 3rd most attempts, ranking 3rd in yards would simply be expected. Nothing great. I am confident you have no area of expertise.
If he was third in attempts and 6th in yardage you would have a point. The fact he has as high an average as he does without td's says he is consistent. He may not be a home run threat, but puts us in good field position. The statistics say the guy is good. Not great, but good. Kick returns for TD's is not something that happens a lot guy. ESPN has people on some unrealistic expectations these days. we see highlight al lthe time and fail to remember that hundreds of football games are played every weekend and there are very few returns for td's. That is why they make highlight reels.

As an offense I would rather have a guy that is gonna good for 20 yards every time he returns one than one that might get me 10 consistently with a couple 80 yarders each season to inflate his stats. Special teams TD's are a bonus. Consistent returns are what you need. This is what DY provides and that is why he does nt lose his job. The coaches would be crazy to replace a known (extremely consistent) good for a maybe.

Your reasoning assumes every single kick is fielded in the end zone. I am pretty sure that is not the case.

You can't determine average starting position, as you assume, from return length. What you can say is that these players moved the ball this far forward on average from their starting position, whether that was in the end zone or at the 5 yard line.

Understandable schoolboy error, though.

Also, if Gault is eligible to play next week I'd happily start a 54 year old kick returner if I were Butch Jones.

Otherwise, who on the current roster is better than Young? That is the discussion at hand.

I remember the high hopes for Devrin coming out of Bearden, hope he breaks a few big ones before time is done.

So hes not as good as Gault and he's right where he should be in average return yards and that makes him terrible? Guess deductive reasoning isnt your strong suit either. Must be the ability to act like an over reactive cry baby.

I was going to post how horrible our defense has truly been over the last 3 years for Young to be up with the all time leaders in total returns, but his average per return is basically the same as Gault's and Scott's. Hard to believe.

You are a riot! I've never heard that form of a joke on VolNation before. It is funny because it implies that I am the person that I am sticking up for. Comedy gold! You should totally take your act on the road to various open mic sessions. I know a guy at the chuckle hut that can put you in that prime 6:45 time slot. Direct message me for info.

Look, when David Oku cracks your top 5, it's not exactly rare air. Just because Gault is in there doesn't mean Devrin compares. He's mediocre at best. It doesn't mean I don't appreciate him, like him, etc. It simply is what it is and I look forward to seeing someone else get their shot at it.

Thanks. Wonder how many TDs he has. Oh yea, none.

Of the 124 FBS teams listed on ESPN, there have been 1615 attempted Kickoff returns. 29 have been successful returns for a TD. 14 of those 29 coming from teams that rank 92-119 in kick returns.

Just doing some (very)rough stats, that leaves about a 1.8% chance that any given KR will be a TD.
