Spurrier's original point was valid, based on his perspective. SOS won an ACC title at Duke, then turned UF into a national power. In his mind, Bama has always been Bama, and it always will be. Meanwhile, SOS made a habit of winning at places that aren't all that accustomed to winning.
Do his comments about Saban reek of sour grapes about Saban? Possibly.
Is SOS entirely wrong? Absolutely not.
Bama is the SEC's standard in football, much like UK in hoops. The right coach in that environment will always have a leg up on programs like South Carolina (football) or Florida (basketball for instance). To suggest that Spurrier hasn't done some of his best coaching over the past few years because he has no rings to show for it, at South Carolina of all places, is ridiculous....and I have little love for Spurrier these days.
