Spurrier's Comments on Saban

This.

The expectations bar at South Carolina is much lower than Bama's...but we shouldn't let that minor detail stop a Bama fan from beating his chest.

Heavens forbid. :)

Steve Spurrier brought up the measuring stick. So he meant go to a lousy football school and win a few more games than normal and your the man. Sounds like fun, I'll take the championships.

It's like you're trying not to get it on purpose.

You'll take the championships because at Bama you EXPECT championships.

That's not the case at South Carolina, where the entire athletic department has two national championships in the school's history.

Well they have 532 championships, so its kinda hard to not to expect a championship when your winning 6-8 a year.

The ole ball coach is not that hard to keep up with. Sounds like a bad combination of buyer's remorse and misery loves company.

I guess those annual beat downs he's inflicted on orange nation are still paying dividends.
He's 4-3 against UT while at South Carolina. So maybe try again? What was the score last time little Napoleon met him as an 8 point favorite? :birgits_giggle:

Being at lowly SC, isn't that kinda like being 7-0? Somebody get that man a trophy.

Your posts remind me of the time I saw this UK hoops fan talking smack to an Ole Miss fan at the SEC tournament.

He really told that guy a thing or two.

Speaking of lower expectations. All about the last word, eh?

It's not a contest friend, but to be fair you did exceed my expectations.

You can go back to feeling superior about being a fan of the defending national champions now.

I'm gonna go over here and wonder what it would be like to have a life as awesome as yours.

Perhaps, it really wasn't your argument. SOS is always going to be controversial with his words. He puts it in print, we get to talk. With stevie's entertaining satire and rocking dry wit, hard to see how it's about me.

Spurrier's original point was valid, based on his perspective. SOS won an ACC title at Duke, then turned UF into a national power. In his mind, Bama has always been Bama, and it always will be. Meanwhile, SOS made a habit of winning at places that aren't all that accustomed to winning.

Do his comments about Saban reek of sour grapes about Saban? Possibly.

Is SOS entirely wrong? Absolutely not.

Bama is the SEC's standard in football, much like UK in hoops. The right coach in that environment will always have a leg up on programs like South Carolina (football) or Florida (basketball for instance). To suggest that Spurrier hasn't done some of his best coaching over the past few years because he has no rings to show for it, at South Carolina of all places, is ridiculous....and I have little love for Spurrier these days.
