Squirrel to the Portal. Receivers abandon Vols . What the ?

And it's the schools, like UT and the boosters, who've pushed this for decades.

I can't blame the players like Nico because guys fly a private jet out to get you, treat you like an executive, and offer you $2M/yr to play football. I'd have taken that deal or a similar deal, wouldn't you?

The people we should blame are in Knoxville. They've arranged this for years and years. All the athletes did was grow up and play ball really well.
Blame ncaa football video game. That’s where this all started

I blame the schools for suing for media rights.

The NCAA kept the deals to VERY few TV games so the money wasn't enormous then the schools sued to make their own deals and suddenly we had LOTS of college sports on TV and LOTS of money flowing into the schools.

When you turn amateur sports into a multi-billion dollar business, expect to get sued for a piece of the action by the amateurs who are playing the sports.

If the schools had let the NCAA keep things down to a dull roar, we'd still be putting our ears to the radio or our butts in the bleachers, but there wouldn't be millions at stake in college ball.

Good.
He's a fast guy....that is it. He can't make all the catches you need a top-tier wideout to make. He drops too many balls. And his route running is not always good. Not sure who might be out there or already here to take his spot, but I have never been enamored by his play. It is very lackluster in my opinion.

Route running? A 2 yard hitch that travels 40 yards doesn’t work when it’s 90% of your passing game.

What is CJH office like? Is the weight room and nutrition area nice? I am assuming for you to say you don't see a sense of urgency you are inside the building and talking to those guys daily.

Think of how CJH kept injuries close to the vest until he was forced to disclose them....

I will trust the guy who took a roster of misfits, minus 30 or so players to the playoffs in 4 years.
I don't understand why people don't see this. And it's even harder to turn things now with the added competition for services.

Amen brother. Some say it’s gonna destroy the game, I say it already has. We just don’t understand or see the degree of destruction that awaits
Ok, I hope NIco works out and becomes an elite qb. But suppose he doesn't, does this mean we are stuck with him because of the 2 million a year? Like what are the big money guys going to say if he is benched? This is the big problem, in addition to other things. Will the coach have to play the big money players. There have been many 5 star bust in College football.

Do the big money players even have to go to classes any longer. They’re being paid to play football, not learn

Did Heupel tell them to all pound sand after the end of the season? Do they all hate Nico's approach? Are they all fed up with Heupel's type of offense? Do they think Heupel runs the ball too much? What gives? Why the receivers and why so many?

So you think it’s a level playing field? You honestly think Miss St and Texas have the same NIL resources?

Better than before. Look at the SEC for example. Do you remember what TSIO was like just 10 years ago? I got tired of watching Alabama and Georgia win SEC every year and it nit be close or Clemson always winning ACC etc.

There's one reason and one reason only that Bama and Georgia kept winning and that is because Tennessee couldn't get it's head out of its @ss with these bafoon coaches. It's Tennessee's responsibility to make sure those teams don't win and they totally blew it.

It may have also been because they paid players (similar to how Pruitt, who came from their system, did at TN). Now that everyone can pay players, they are starting to struggle.

#1 prolly, but yes.
#2- no
#3- no
#4- no
#5- replacing 3star guys with 4stars or above. source...look at current roster and incoming for 2025.
#6 - have to make room, did this to dB group last year.

*To add,... Matthew's was not expected, still trying to hold him.

Our WR room was very full this year, I think that was part of the problem. And despite what a lot are saying about underperformance, I thought Thorton and Bru played well. Maybe they should have had more touches, though it may be that Bru still struggled a bit with his injury recovery.

So clearing it out may not be the worst thing. Get Michaels in there. Would love to have Brazzel back (a few drops this season aside) but there are other WRs out there.

And I will say the silent part out loud...a good deal of this is Nico missing open receivers and being inconsistent. WRs are only going to perform as well as the guy throwing the ball to them.

Squirrel seems to have a lot of potential, but this year there was a risk to price consideration every time he was involved in a play. Haven't seen actual numbers, but it sure seems like he dropped a few balls this year and alligator-armed when a DB was closing in. Don't remember seeing him ever put together a dominant game.

Squirrel is a good WR, he didn’t forget how to run a route or catch a football. I would think injuries this year limited his opportunities. Wish him nothing but success.
