Thought so,
There's probably a few on here that grew up with him in Knoxville

He was 3 years older than me, and I didn't know him

Louis C.K. has already been mentioned, but it deserves repeating since he will go down as one of the greats just on the fact he has a new special every year. Of the current crop, Anthony Jeselnick and Amy Shumer are excellent (though they are certainly PG-13 at the least. I also probably misspelled his name but I don't care to google it on my phone at the moment.)

Mitch Hedberg would be a 90's staple that I'd recommend if he's never been seen before.

However, in this day and age, you're going to find it nigh impossible to find a good stand up who doesn't make fun of something that you value, religion, race, sexual orientation, politics, etc. Best to just watch and realize, it's comedy and nothing more, and more than likely the ones making fun are more tolerant than any of us ever will be.

Hedberg was a genius. Messed up, but funny as all. My wife doesn't appreciate his humor as much as I do. "Dufrene, party of three. Dufrene..."

While Hedberg is great, for that style, I prefer Stephen Wright.

Both are great. I've seen both live. I'd go see Mitch first every time if it was possible. I found Mitch to be much better on stage.

As for Netflix selections: Doug Stanhope's Beer Hall Putsch, Chelsea Peretti (not for everyone), Doug Benson, Dave Foley, Moshe Kasher, Gary Gulman, Alonzo Bodden all have relatively new stuff on Netflix that's worth watching.

I saw him live before I had any idea who he was. He came out with a dude playing bass in the background during his routine, then he went into a bit about camping and how awkward it was to camp with a significant other since you can't make a dramatic exit from a tent. Pure awesomeness.

I think I have that album. Love listening in the car on road trips.

If you don't like Bill Burr, I have no idea what to recommend. To me he's the clear #2 right now behind Louis CK.
