Nationalistic BS. We have the benefit of resources and history that they just flat-out don't have. You are no better than anyone else.

History?

A bunch of white guys who turned their backs on the then major power and went to war with them?

Formed in 1776 little over 200 years ago?

What history?

We are young as far as nations go.

Is this what they're teaching in college now a days?

Lol. A history of massacre to claim this country...

All altruism does is punish the achievers and producers and makes the non-producers more dependent.

I guess they didn't teach American history in your day?

How old do you think Haiti is (hint: it's even younger)?

I couldn't disagree more vehemently.

Why? Where do you get your sense of entitlement from? What have you done to make the USA a better country? What makes you, me, or anyone else better than someone you've never met? What if you were born in Haiti, Africa, India, Mexico, North Korea, and so on?

You think that because your father's fathers built a great country, makes it great right now and means you can reap the spoils? Sure, they did that with you and me in mind, but as people we have to do something to further that. No, that doesn't mean we have to continue to take land and whatever.

All I know is I was raised to believe all people were equal. I'm not sure how one can believe that and also believe Americans are automatically worth more or somehow better people than others.

Why is an American better than anyone else?

It's pretty simple. No country in human history has achieved as much, or had as positive an inpact on the world, as has the U.S.

In any case, I never said an American is better than anyone else. I said the U.S. is better than any other country. Reading is elemental.

I agree that reading is fundamental. This thread is clearly speaking in regards to individuals, not nations. Someone else injected nationality, and the question was raised as to why members of nation A were better than nation B.

With me?

What sense of entitlement? I do serve in the military, which I would like to think is my way of contributing to the country that has given me so much.

And thanks for telling me what I think. Otherwise I would be completely lost. Your reference to "taking land" seems completely out of place, since that subject was never referenced.

The way you posed the question to me made it seem as though I was referring to individuals.

My bad.:hi:

I took the OP to mean more than just single individuals along the lines of countries. If that was his intent, I took it different.

Well, that's what I've been speaking in the context of. Maybe I am different than the OP.

BS. Explain how two countries, on the same island have such radically different standards of living.
