Lowly rated? To be fair to him when he came out of high school he was an 89 on 247 with offers from Oregon, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Stanford and several others. 1 point from being a 4 star on their site and his composite was just over 88. Not really fitting the “lowly rated” narrative but do you. You could have found much better examples than this guy. These are the types that help give you a solid, rounded out rotation esp the way we play.Always love the first few pages of a lowly rated recruits thread where everyone is trying to talk themselves into him being a stud in orange. Nobody knows one way or the other, but it’s entertaining nonetheless.
I get what you are saying, but there are always going to be unhappy posters regardless of what happens. This type of post is too negative a vibe, IMO. Let's not presume we are not going to get him, shall we?Because he’s in the portal with a visit set, the baseline expectation is that he will choose Tennessee unless the coaches and boosters (and complacent fans that enable them) somehow screw it all up.
After all, he plays at a California school and is from San Diego - why would he not choose Tennessee?
You can’t go off transfer portal rankings, 247 literally ranks Brock Vandagriff who hasn’t proven anything in college over Dillon Gabriel. This guy isn’t some lowly rated prospect his resume already comes with a boatload of snaps in power 5 college and 2 more years left to play.Always love the first few pages of a lowly rated recruits thread where everyone is trying to talk themselves into him being a stud in orange. It used to be frowned upon to speculate about who might get cut on message boards because “they’re college kids.” But since we’re out in the open about the fact it’s a business now, I think the following are possibilities leave after the spring:I have zero issues with improving the roster. Go get this kid if Garner thinks he can help us win.
But it does bring up numbers, and a question many feel uncomfortable discussing - who we gonna cut loose to make room for this hosscat?
I saw someone on here say that NIL was being used to pay for “some” PWO tuition plus extra so they didn’t count towards the 82-85 limit. Really smart if true and legal.I have zero issues with improving the roster. Go get this kid if Garner thinks he can help us win.

Right. But those PWOs are pretty much known upfront (Colin Brazzell being one). They’re not going to kick an existing scholarship player to non-scholarship/NIL funded. And they’re not going to beat out other schools for a portal guy without putting him on scholarship. I still think some dudes will have to leave in the spring.I saw someone on here say that NIL was being used to pay for “some” PWO tuition plus extra so they didn’t count towards the 82-85 limit. I would guess there will also be some surprise guys that the staff would like to keep that will not want to be depth pieces and hit the portal in May. Not to mention the potential for some medicals. It used to be frowned upon to speculate about who might get cut on message boards because “they’re college kids.” But since we’re out in the open about the fact it’s a business now, I think the following are possibilities leave after the spring:
Larry Johnson, III
Christian Harrison
Christian Charles
Nate Spillman
Nathaniel Leacock
I know Spillman has a brother coming in, but he also might just decide to go somewhere where he can play without being asked to leave. Or he might decide that football isn’t for him and just stick around UT as a regular student.
Leacock needs to make a jump or he’s in danger of being at the bottom of the depth chart for good.
Johnson looks slow and I just don’t see him making a dent in the depth chart with Heard and the new guys coming in.
Same with Harrison…he’s been recruited over. Unless he can play Safety.
Charles can’t stay healthy. Can’t improve if you can’t play.
I prefer to wait and see who this happens to instead of cheering for who I want to get rid of. Thing is when they make your list, especially if it’s public, you will subconsciously want them to fail and start pointing out when they do. There’s nothing fun about that.It used to be frowned upon to speculate about who might get cut on message boards because “they’re college kids.” But since we’re out in the open about the fact it’s a business now, I think the following are possibilities leave after the spring:

Meh. Perhaps. But this is a message board. We can discuss these possibilities without “cheering” for it. Just like saying a player isn’t getting it done…if he surprises and turns out good, we’re still happy about it. I don’t think that everyone who said Milton sucks actually wanted him to suck. If, say, Christian Charles, has a great year, I’ll be happy about that.I prefer to wait and see who this happens to instead of cheering for who I want to get rid of. There were a few that proclaimed Milton sucked that didn’t want him to, but the others couldn’t wait to say I told you so after every single play that didn’t meet their standards. The whole season on here was going over which players they said were bad did a bad play. It’s human nature.Meh. Perhaps. But this is a message board. Bottom line, this staff very well may get Moi, another OL, and maybe someone else. That means some dudes will have to leave after spring.
People speculate all the time about which pro athletes might get traded or cut. These guys are getting paid now, so it’s fair game.
I agree with this. I don't like discussing who should be gone either.I prefer to wait and see who this happens to instead of cheering for who I want to get rid of.
