'22 Stanford transfer DT Jaxson Moi (Tennessee)

I agree with this. I don't like discussing who should be gone either.

Imagine being a Vol mom or dad and reading that VolNation thinks that their son will be gone by next fall. smdh.
It’s a message board for discussing Vol football and recruiting. If parents don’t like it, avoid the board. JMO.

Meh. Perhaps. But this is a message board. We can discuss these possibilities without “cheering” for it. Just like saying a player isn’t getting it done…if he surprises and turns out good, we’re still happy about it. I don’t think that everyone who said Milton sucks actually wanted him to suck. If, say, Christian Charles, has a great year, I’ll be happy about that.

Bottom line, this staff very well may get Moi, another OL, and maybe someone else. That means some dudes will have to leave after spring.

People speculate all the time about which pro athletes might get traded or cut. These guys are getting paid now, so it’s fair game.
Agreed. I care more about the Vols than being right about my evaluation of a player. I want them all to do well. If they don’t, I want them to leave. Pretty simple.

It used to be frowned upon to speculate about who might get cut on message boards because “they’re college kids.” But since we’re out in the open about the fact it’s a business now, I think the following are possibilities leave after the spring:

Larry Johnson, III
Christian Harrison
Christian Charles
Nate Spillman
Nathaniel Leacock

I know Spillman has a brother coming in, but he also might just decide to go somewhere where he can play without being asked to leave. Or he might decide that football isn’t for him and just stick around UT as a regular student.

Leacock needs to make a jump or he’s in danger of being at the bottom of the depth chart for good.

Johnson looks slow and I just don’t see him making a dent in the depth chart with Heard and the new guys coming in.

Same with Harrison…he’s been recruited over. Unless he can play Safety.

Charles can’t stay healthy. Can’t improve if you can’t play.
You’ve done it now…

“Frowned upon”? Lol, it was an unforgivable crime akin to Possessing a Silmaril or Casting a Cruciatus Curse.

NIL “it’s just business”, and the high frequency transfer portal has changed the perception that these are “just college kids” to an extent.

But there will absolutely still be those that bristle with the mention of player’s names.

I saw someone on here say that NIL was being used to pay for “some” PWO tuition plus extra so they didn’t count towards the 82-85 limit. Really smart if true and legal.
I don’t care - by hook or by crook.

Get as many of the best players we can find onto the roster.

Traditional scholarships
NIL deals
PWO agreements

Bend the numbers. Make it work. Max out the roster.

Lol they were always “getting paid”.

Some more than others, but all were receiving some form (or multiple forms) of compensation in exchange for their services.

We’ll no doubt have guys on our current roster head for the exits after/during spring ball.

CFB spring practice fixin to start looking pretty close to MLB Spring Training and the accompanying “roster cuts”.

Always love the first few pages of a lowly rated recruits thread where everyone is trying to talk themselves into him being a stud in orange. Nobody knows one way or the other, but it’s entertaining nonetheless.

Lol...you'd think you were on a UK board.

Yes. Yes, they were. And the ones paying the most are the ones who were most upset by NIL.

Bad idea.
Why? It’s probably not realistic to think we can land him without promising him some rotational time, but if we could redshirt him, it certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea. We lose a ton of DL after 2024, so having Moi available for 25 AND 26 would be to have him when he’s more needed. In 2024, we have Thomas, Eason, Hobbs, ONL, and Simmons all at the DT spots. So he’s our 6th DT in 2024, at best. We lose 4 of those 5 after 2024, though.

I do think Jamal Wallace will redshirt.

Lowly rated? To be fair to him when he came out of high school he was an 89 on 247 with offers from Oregon, USC, UCLA, Michigan, Stanford and several others. 1 point from being a 4 star on their site and his composite was just over 88. Not really fitting the “lowly rated” narrative but do you. You could have found much better examples than this guy. These are the types that help give you a solid, rounded out rotation esp the way we play.

He was also only pushing about 260-270lbs when he left high school and now he’s pushing 305lbs. Give him a shot.
You’re right I’m completely out on him thanks for helping me reach that conclusion!

You can’t go off transfer portal rankings, 247 literally ranks Brock Vandagriff who hasn’t proven anything in college over Dillon Gabriel. This guy isn’t some lowly rated prospect his resume already comes with a boatload of snaps in power 5 college and 2 more years left to play.
His “resume” is that he’s already been recruited over at Stanford.

All reports on Leacock were good, he just redshirted.

I'm probably biased because I remember how good his dad was, but I've always wondered if Harrison could play safety like his dad.

We won't cut Spillman.

I do think we'll probably see a few more people hit the portal in the Spring. No idea who.

I don’t think we’ll cut Leacock. But he may leave on his own if he gets passed by Matthews and Staley.

Like I said, Spillman might make that decision on his own. Sometimes, you don’t have to cut a guy if he sees that he’s never going to play.

I’d love to see Harrison tried at Safety, but I’m not sure he has the size for it.

Harrison is listed at 6'1" and 190lbs. That's plenty big enough for safety.

Kind of surprised Leacock hasn't lived up to his billing
