J.J Abrams & Lawrence Kasdan Take Over As ‘Star Wars’ Scribes

BREAKING … The new Star Wars movie has a new screen writing team. It was announced online today that Episode VII director J.J. Abrams and Empire Strikes Back co-writer Lawrence Kasdan will take over as scribes for the upcoming Disney project which is set to be released in 2015. The duo are taking over from Michael Arndt. The writer, who penned the screenplay for Hunger Games: Catching Fire and won an Oscar for writing Little Miss Sunshine, was named as the sole screenwriter on the pic early last November. Arndt was also said to be working on treatments for the other two planned new Star Wars films. “I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and J.J. working on the script,” states LucasFilm boss Kathleen Kennedy in a statement posted on Starwars.com Thursday. “There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. J.J. of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.” Kassan, who wrote the first Indiana Jones movie and wrote/directed The Big Chill as well, has been serving as a consultant on the first of three planned new Star Wars pics. Episode VII is scheduled to start filming at the UK’s Pinewood Studios in the spring of next year.

Sounds like the perfect reason to use time travel.

I don't mean that. I meant the aging of Obi Wan and the fact that he claimed in Episode IV to not remember ever owning any droids. Even if he didn't own them, he still should have remembered R2 and 3P0. The droids' memories can be wiped, a Jedi Knight's not so much.

Also, in Episode VI, Luke asks Leia if he remembers anything about their mother. Leia had a vague recollection that she was very beautiful. In Episode III, they are both taken from Amidala minutes after they are born.

There are other things too.

Maybe Obi Wan did not want to speak about them and technically was telling the truth because they weren't his. Also, maybe Leia saw a pictures of her mother in her early years after being adopted.

Just what ifs...

Obi Wan left a lot of details out during that first discussion with Luke. No surprise he didn't comment on knowing R2 and 3PO. Also, there is a distinct impression that droids are somewhat beneath people in the SW universe and they could be viewed as dime a dozen. Remembering two specific droids may not have been at the top of his memory.
