Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

I didn't mind them being in it as much as Anakin building C3PO and R2 becoming his personal astro-mech. They kinda explained it by wiping 3PO's memory but left R2 in tact.

Thankfully they didn't go with the planned kid Han on Kyssshak being raised by Chewbacca.

Was that really a possibility? That's horrible.

But Obi-Wan didn't recognize them in a New Hope? That's another aspect that always bothered me.

In the Star Wars universe, astro and protocol droids are as common as toasters. They're every day "appliances" and chances are, Obi Wan saw many of them over the years, probably many who looked just like C3PO and R2D2. So seeing the two with Luke probably didn't immediately trigger any memories from his past.

Then again, Obi Wan very well could have known exactly who they were but didn't say anything because he was keeping everything with Luke on a "need to know" basis.

That's how I often reconcilied Obi-Wan's lack of recognition. In fact, in the Clone Wars pretty much everyone except Anakin treats their droids like disposable tools. In one episode they mentioned the Astro-mechs were supposed to get wiped after every mission but Anakin would never do it to R2.

And as you said, he may have been playing coy.

As for Yoda, I wouldn't expect him to have recognized R2 for that exact reason. I would expect R2 to recognize Yoda though and tell Luke in his chirps and whistles "Hey! THIS guy was a Jedi Master!".

Well, Luke couldn't understand R2's "language" on his own. He either needed 3PO to translate for him or to read R2's beeps and whistles through the translator on his X-Wing. Luke never told R2 why they were going to Dagobah while they were in the ship and by the time Luke mentions Yoda by name they were already out of the ship and had made camp. Also 3PO did not accompany them on that trip, so there's definitely "wiggle room" there to make sense of R2's silence.

Aside from that, I just assumed R2 was simply wise to the whole situation and understood that it was in the best interest for ALL parties not to say anything. If you remember, he didn't say anything to Luke on Tattooine about who Obi Wan was or why it was important to get his message to Princess Leia either. Hell, besides Yoda and Obi Wan, R2D2 was probably the wisest character in the entire saga!

I know what you mean. I told my wife after seeing the 3rd trailer that it feels so good to know the "grown ups" are in charge of this franchise now! No offense to George Lucas and I will be forever grateful to him for creating this amazing universe. However it was clearly obvious that he was out of his depth sitting in the director's chair for the prequels and having that complete kiss-ass Rick McCallum as producer didn't help matters either!

Fair enough. Another one that bothers me for you and VOLffle, "When I first knew your father he was already a great pilot, but I was amazed at how strongly the force was with him."

What made little Anny a great pilot? His God-awful auto pilot scene that was repeated clips of him inside the cockpit going "wooooaaahhhh" and "that was cool!"? (The thought of that scene literally makes me cringe)

Or because of pod-racing maybe? I mean do you really refer to a pod-racer as a "great pilot"?

Obi Wan didn't see the pod race. So I doubt his comment would have been based on that.

I think in this instance you're just going to have to use your imagination a little to fill in the gaps. Obi Wan didn't become Anakin's master until the very end of The Phantom Menace. So by the time we get to Attack of the Clones, that's about 10 years of off-screen time that has gone by. His "already a great pilot" comment simply could have been from what he saw of Anakin as a pilot during those very early moments while training him that we never saw.

Towards the end of Episode III some techs were instructed to wipe C3PO's data banks...most likely did R2's also.

Edit: just read earlier post. Was it set in stone that R2's weren't wiped? If Anakin was the only thing keeping it from being part of his regular routine then it most likely got done with him out doing evil Sith stuff and all. :dunno:

So is it pretty fair to say the generally accepted order of Star Wars movie from best to worst would go:

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

Would anyone put them in a different order?

I agree on that order

It varies person by person

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. A New Hope
5. Attacking of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

Not a fan of the prequels by any means, but I did enjoy ROTS

If I was going to rank them, in terms of quality, it would be:

1. Empire
2. A New Hope
3. Revenge of the Sith
4. Return of the Jedi
5. The Phantom Menace
6. Attack of the Clones

Oddly enough, I still maintain that Sith is the most fun and easy to watch overall, despite bad acting and dialogue. Conversely, Empire to me drags between Hoth and Cloud City. Maybe its because I've seen it so much. Of the prequels, The Phantom Menace feels and looks the most like a Star Wars movie. It's just so poorly paced. And Jar Jar. Attack of the Clones is just hurt so much by the romance, but the other stuff is fun.

I'd say that would probably be the most popular order if you asked the majority of Star Wars fans. However it wouldn't be my order. Mine would look like this...

1.) Return of the Jedi
2.) The Empire Strikes Back
3.) A New Hope
4.) Revenge of the Sith
5.) The Phantom Menace
6.) Attack of the Clones

There were elements of Revenge of the Sith that could flip it with ROTJ, but the Jabba scenes keep #3 ahead.

I'm going to read between the lines and assume he was talking about instincts. While I agree the Autopilot launch was dumb and the clips of Anakin in the cock pit were annoying, he DID blow up the Trade Federation command station. I'm sure once Obi-Wan took him on as an apprentice he witnessed how intuitive he was as a pilot.

Pretty much my order except....

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Trailers for the Force Awakens
6. Attack of the Clones
7. The Phantom Menace

Overall I really dislike The Phantom Menace and almost try to disassociate in my mind like it's the Droids cartoon from the 80's. It's the most damaging to the Saga. I hate meticlorians (or however it's spelled), I hate the immaculate conception of Anakin, I hate that Anakin built C3PO. Obviously Jar Jar was terrible (even though I will concede that small kids like him which was his purpose), the whole political mumbo jumbo that didn't even make sense. The list goes on and on.

Add killing off the best (only) part of that farce...Darth Maul.

I feel like Revenge if the Sith holds up fairly well to the classics. If I was ranking them as far as quality of movie, I think it would be

1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. A New Hope
3. Return of the Jedi
4. Revenge of the Sith
5. Attack of the Clones
6. The Phantom Menace

But if I am ranking based on how much I actually enjoy watching them, I would rank it:

1: A New Hope
2: Revenge of the Sith
3: Return of the Jedi
4: The Empire Strikes Back
5: Attack of the Clones
6: The Phantom Menace.

If you are interested in purchasing the Blu-ray & DVD trilogy packs, Amazon Prime is offering them at less than $40 each. Episodes IV, V, VI are $39.96 and Episodes I, II, III are $34.96. They are on back order, but that's a substantial savings over regular price and you could order both sets individually for less than the price of purchasing the entire saga ($87.50). Free shipping on Prime also.

Can't really tell but it would be interesting to see how Ren becomes the owner of Vader's helmet.

If those are dead ewoks maybe he went to endor to recover and ewoks were in charge of guarding the tomb. Maybe we'll get to see ewoks slashed in half.
