3.). The the whole "force awareness" with Rey seemed too rushed to me. She basically went from never using the force to suddenly doing mind tricks and holding her own with a trained sith apprentice? That seemed like a bit of a stretch to me. Even Luke needed training from Obi Wan and Yoda before he could go toe to toe with Vader.
I like it. But I don't think it will happen cause Kathleen Kennedy is into pushing the new PC Star Wars for everybody. I think she wants Rey to be a hero.
It did just feel like a re-skinned Star Trek. I'm absolutely shocked that it's getting this much love from die hard Star Wars people. I guess that just shows the desperation to get back to the originals. And yes, the score was a serious disappointment. Every Star Wars movie has a new main theme that sticks with you after you walk out. This one didn't and I was extremely disappointed with that. Probably more than I should be.Actually you're not. It definitely looked like Star Wars with the designs and camera shots, but there was something missing. It felt like a JJ Abrams movie like Star Trek, where it should've leaned more towards Super 8.
I think some scenes, like the CG monsters and Snoke, hurt it. The music really hurt the most tho. And there was so much fan service, at times it almost felt like they were talking to the 4th wall. I think this is what annoyed me most about C3P0. The fades and wipes were not used correctly. It's a tricky thing that actually correlates to the story beats, and one of the things the prequels did right. You can't just throw them in there and it be Star Wars.
Edit: as an example, the final isoteric shot with the camera rotating. Did not feel like Star Wars.
I think the luster will wear off after a while, kinda like it did with Avatar and even the prequels. In fairness, this one was kinda rushed too. Almost like the plethora of movies that came out during the wake of the writer's strike (Quantum of Solace, Revenge of the Fallen, etc). They were waiting and waiting for Michael Arndt to finish the script, but he basically said "Hey, I need 18 months." Which is ridiculous, so Disney took it out of his hands and put it in JJ's and Kasdan's and they only had 6 month to do the script.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of this movie, whether you love it or are meh about it, I think the next movie is going to be much, much better.
How so?They had swearing, blood, mass shootings,patricide..
