Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

Yeah it was in the script and the call sheets, not actually in the movie. My only guess is that they're saving it for the next movie, cause I'm pretty sure that...

Rey is Luke's daugher

It's so obvious. Especially during the scene with Maz and Rey talking about the Skywalker lightsaber.

3.). The the whole "force awareness" with Rey seemed too rushed to me. She basically went from never using the force to suddenly doing mind tricks and holding her own with a trained sith apprentice? That seemed like a bit of a stretch to me. Even Luke needed training from Obi Wan and Yoda before he could go toe to toe with Vader.

See this is something that should've been fixed by editing. The script depicts a young girl training with Ben who I'm almost certain is Rey.

In the novelization, during the flashback, at the end of the Cloud City hallway, Rey sees a boy. I'm guessing is also supposed to be young Ben.

She's already been trained some but her memories are supressed for some reason. Then the "Force awakens" in her and she starts to recall it.

And back to the mere possibility of her being the graddaughter of Palpatine...they could hint of her being a descendent of Naboo. Continue to discuss her knowledge of the Force. Then BOOM. She becomes the bad guy. You flip Kylo. Now we're into a story that people don't expect.

I like it. But I don't think it will happen cause Kathleen Kennedy is into pushing the new PC Star Wars for everybody. I think she wants Rey to be a hero.

I understand that. I just feel like, if they make Rey the daughter of either Luke or Leia, they're no better than the girls in the windows in the Red Light District. They're giving it all away really easily. There's gotta be some big mind-blowing WHOA moment. And saying she's the daughter of Luke or Leia has no shock value. But if the 2nd movie starts to develop Rey acting on anger, then she gets a ghost visit from the Sith Lord who urges her to use that anger to be able to save the galaxy...Now you can have this weird dynamic where Kylo has to choose whether to fall in under Rey's tutelage as his grandfather once did, or flip to the Light side to save the day. Either way, at least the entire movie isn't just ho-hum with everyone knowing what's gonna happen.

I just think the end of the 2nd film could have Kylo making his decision to side with a now-sith Rey, turning away from Luke and Leia.

I guess I'm the only person in the whole world that thought that this movie felt decidedly NOT Star Wars. Yeah, the ships and people were the same but it just had a completely different tone. Not that that tone was bad, it just didn't feel like Star Wars. JMO.

Actually you're not. It definitely looked like Star Wars with the designs and camera shots, but there was something missing. It felt like a JJ Abrams movie like Star Trek, where it should've leaned more towards Super 8.

I think some scenes, like the CG monsters and Snoke, hurt it. The music really hurt the most tho. And there was so much fan service, at times it almost felt like they were talking to the 4th wall. I think this is what annoyed me most about C3P0. The fades and wipes were not used correctly. It's a tricky thing that actually correlates to the story beats, and one of the things the prequels did right. You can't just throw them in there and it be Star Wars.

Edit: as an example, the final isoteric shot with the camera rotating. Did not feel like Star Wars.

It did just feel like a re-skinned Star Trek. I'm absolutely shocked that it's getting this much love from die hard Star Wars people. I guess that just shows the desperation to get back to the originals. And yes, the score was a serious disappointment. Every Star Wars movie has a new main theme that sticks with you after you walk out. This one didn't and I was extremely disappointed with that. Probably more than I should be.

All in all, I probably give it a 7/10. I really really really really wanted to like it more than I do. This was clearly a movie to repent for the prequls at the alter of Star Wars and to get back on track so we can branch out so I can kind of give it a pass in that way but I was disappointed and like I said, I'm shocked so many people love it as much as they seem to.

I think the luster will wear off after a while, kinda like it did with Avatar and even the prequels. In fairness, this one was kinda rushed too. Almost like the plethora of movies that came out during the wake of the writer's strike (Quantum of Solace, Revenge of the Fallen, etc). They were waiting and waiting for Michael Arndt to finish the script, but he basically said "Hey, I need 18 months." Which is ridiculous, so Disney took it out of his hands and put it in JJ's and Kasdan's and they only had 6 month to do the script.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of this movie, whether you love it or are meh about it, I think the next movie is going to be much, much better.

Agree completely with your last sentence. Completely.

I can't help but laugh at this. I don't understand the praise. All of the star wars fans were so desperate for a movie that they've labeled this awesome. Coming from the standpoint of fan of cinema and no blinders on it was very meh.

Maybe they're going to say she's the daughter of Luke AND Leia!

Leia- "Hey Luke, remember that time Han was frozen in carbonite and you came to my chambers to "comfort" me?"

Just saw the 3D version. I thought it was a good movie. Don't think it was very original. Borrowed a lot of the plotlines from the first three movies. But, they were good plots to borrow from. Did like the new characters of Rey and Fin. Thought Ben Solo and Snoke were too similar to Anakin and Palpatine but still overall positive. Still the same kind of comedy intertwined throughout.

How so?
They had swearing, blood, mass shootings,patricide..

Cartoonish villains we neither like nor sympathize with that ensure we like the protagonists. I always found myself disliking the Jedi and understanding why people turn to the Sith. This movie offered no explanation as to why Ben Solo turned on Luke or hated his dad. Just whiny *****assness.
