Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

I don't think they destroyed the entire Republic. I got the impression they just wiped out the capital sector. I would imagine the Republic has at least a couple of hundred if not thousands of star systems in their control. Sure the political and military high command may be all dead but I have a feeling they are not all gone.

That said I wish they would have gotten a little more in-depth on the post-Endor order of the galaxy. I would have like a little more backstory on the Republic and the First Order on how they came together. I would also like to know why the Republic is only supporting the Resistance instead of tackling the First Order head on? If I knew the group was capable of building a super weapon I wouldn't just be counting on a rat tag band of freedom fighters.

Hux went on in his epic speech about the Republic being liars and traitors and how they would destroy them...that beam knocked out like 5 planets and when you see the scene with the people on the planet they are Republic officer type folks. I am pretty sure the Republic got wiped out.

I'm not sure I'm following your logic here

Hux goes on about the Republic being traitors and funding/encouraging the resistance. He speaks as if there is a treaty between the Republic and the First Order. He then basically says the Republic will pay and pretty much ( in my opinion) destroys their planets and military.) So I am saying that the First Order is now about to become the next Empire.

To clarify on the New Republic:

It was just the capital (the senate) and the fleet that were destroyed. Altho I guess for all intents and purposes, the New Republic is destroyed.

Also after Jedi, according to the Aftermath novel, the Republic and the Empire agreed to disarm. The Resistance is like the undercover, black ops version of the Republic army (since the Republic has no army). They secretly get support from the Republic (as Hux mentions in the film), but they are not an official army.

I saw it in 3D. It was awesome. I loved the movie and my wife who had never seen any Star Wars movies loved it as well. 8 year old loved it more than anyone I think.

I'm so glad that I'm a casual fan of Star Wars and not a bellyaching fan boy who has to nitpick this thing to death. It was a lot of fun to watch this movie and just enjoy it.

just kidding Star Wars is great escapism...if you want to learn more about the man who inspired Lucas to make the films, I suggest reading books by Joseph Campbell..this would be a good start

You and Joseph Campbell.....

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 4.5/5

The only thing that kept me from giving it perfect score was a certain scene near the end that made me cry and pissed me off! Other than that I can't I can't wait for Episode 8!

A few notes: I want a BB-8 and Daisy Ridley is smokin' hot and has a big future ahead of her!

I'm really banking on them going less predictable than that.

still holding out hope for her to end up being Sith descendant

also, regarding the R2 stufff

IF she's Luke or Leia's progeny, it makes sense that her presence nearby was all R2 needed to kick back on. Or perhaps just the existence of his lightsaber.

action was amazing. Story not the greatest...Saber battles, meh. And where were certain characters?

The saber battles were meh because neither Rey, Finn, Ren are experienced swordsmen so they are basically just swinging their lightsabers around at each other. I appreciated it personally.
