Star Wars: Episode VII (December 18, 2015) ***SPOILERS***

I think VIII will be the best of the three by far. Hopefully I'm not hyping it up too much. But I'm less excited about Jurassic World director doing IX than I was JJ.

I loved it. People are *****ing because it reminds them of the first ones.... That's what people want!!!

Some more on Snoke from the novel:

He watched the rise and fall of the Empire, which means he was around at least at the time of the prequels.

He is also described as humanoid, but not human.

Just saw it tonight. It was possibly the best 2 hours of my life. Literally everything I wanted it to be.

My best answers for some of the more common gripes I've seen:

-Rey being strong with the force:

Everyone is in tune with the force to their own degree. Before Luke learned how to use the force he couldn't even take on a semi-retarded Sand Person. But when Anakin was just a little douchebag kid he could pod race. He couldn't pod race because he just had quick reflexes, he could pod race because he was in tune with the force and didn't even know it.

-Rey being able to fight with Kylo:

I think they were legitimately trying to convey that Kylo wasn't as strong as he thought he was. He was trained in the force, and skilled, but not very strong yet.

Is this for sure? That stresses me out, because I hated Jurassic World, and it was mostly because it was poorly directed.

I agree with this view; Kylo's fighting style was clumsy and only slightly better than Rey's. It was easily the most amateur lightsaber duel in the history of SW.

Follow up question: but what does that say about Luke as a mentor?! How long did he have with Ben Solo before he was turned?

I don't know the exact age when he was turned over for training, but he was 19 when he was turned over by the dark side. That being said in the script and the novel it's hinted at that he had a natural tendency towards the dark side, and Snoke was messing with his mind at a very young age.

I was angry, and mentioned it under my breath to my friend next to me, that Rey didn't get the lightsaber for far too long. Like how long was the damn Stormtrooper gonna hold onto a weapon he doesn't even know how to use?

Cartoonish villains we neither like nor sympathize with that ensure we like the protagonists. I always found myself disliking the Jedi and understanding why people turn to the Sith. This movie offered no explanation as to why Ben Solo turned on Luke or hated his dad. Just whiny *****assness.

I think a lot of the "Why did this happen" stuff will be answered later. I liked Kylo Ren...I mean a
force pull + choke?? That's rad.

On the fence about Snoke..not much to really go on.

That's part of my problem with the film.
Kylo Ren force stopped a blaster bolt. That was unbelievably cool. I don't think we have ever seen that move before. But couldn't beat his untrained cousin in a saber battle. Also she develops her powers way to fast. Being able to not only defend herself against Ren's mind attacks but reverse it. Mind tricking the storm trooper I mean come on. I know we have to suspend disbelief to enjoy the movies but we now have to suspend disbelief within the universe the movies inhabit to understand that.

I think more of this will be explained in Episode 8. Her abilities with the lightsaber I can buy because the movie already showed us how completely badass she was with that staff. Somebody had to have trained her previously. She didnt develop those skills practicing at home in front of a mirror.

to be fair about the lightsaber battle Kylo did take a blaster to the gut which we had seen earlier in the film capable of blowing people off their feet. I agree with the girl developing her abilities too fast but I am assuming thats where the whole "the force awakens" part comes in.

Another thing I don't see really anyone talking about..
The First Order completely destroyed the Republic. Their planets, their leadership, their military, their space ships, all gone. And "The Resistance" has like 5 X-wings and a jump ship left..

Most of the stuff doesn't bother me and is easily explainable. The plot hole that bugs me most is:

R2 just happening to wake up. I hope there is an explanation for this because otherwise it is just eye rolling coincidence

People are mentioning the novel. How are you able to read it?

The e-version is out on Amazon

A couple of other interesting observations from the novel:

-Kylo and Lors San Tekka know each other from the past. This is alluded to in the movie as well. If I had to guess I would say Lors is there to keep an eye on Rey, because he also has part of the map to Luke. Kinda like Kenobi in Star Wars, except he is holding a lightsaber.

-Kylo recognizes Rey from his past when she calls the lightsaber to her. He says, "It IS you." There is no doubt that he trained with her. The real question is why was she left on Jakku, and by whom. And why were her memories supressed.

-Snoke is in Rey's head when she's fighting Kylo, urging her to finish him off. When you watch the movie, to me it's kinda obvious that she is tapping into the darkside cause she is very angry. The look she gives him when he's laying there on the ground is Darth Maul-ish to me.

I don't think they destroyed the entire Republic. I got the impression they just wiped out the capital sector. I would imagine the Republic has at least a couple of hundred if not thousands of star systems in their control. Sure the political and military high command may be all dead but I have a feeling they are not all gone.

That said I wish they would have gotten a little more in-depth on the post-Endor order of the galaxy. I would have like a little more backstory on the Republic and the First Order on how they came together. I would also like to know why the Republic is only supporting the Resistance instead of tackling the First Order head on? If I knew the group was capable of building a super weapon I wouldn't just be counting on a rat tag band of freedom fighters.

That's a great question.

Are we sure the Resistance isn't just the military branch of the Republic?
