While it's easy for the semi-hardcore fans to grasp, I think jumping around the timeline is going to hurt the franchise some in the future. Ive had several casual movie goers ask my when this takes place, then their eyes glaze over even when you give them the simplest answer of "just before the original one with Luke".

Nah..casual fans suck.
As long as they keep it quality storytelling and not just churn out crap because they know it will sell, I'd like to see other standalone movies to fill in gaps or tell other parts of the story.
Keep them simple and don't try to match the grand scale of events that are happening in the trilogies.
Picked up the novelization for this yesterday and just finished it. I think it added some depth to the movie, especially the final battle scenes. The character it really helped flesh out was Admiral Raddus, by the end of the book I felt he was great character. Too bad he died at Scarif or the Alliance would have had two bad arse leaders in Ackbar and Raddus (which was was the superior though?).
