Star Wars: Rogue One

What I don't get is why are they trying to make everything look new and cool? The Shadow troopers'(?) helmets look stupid, and the new design of the AT-AT cockpit just baffles me. It's Star Wars, leave it alone, they look great before you changed it.

Most of y'all will probably just call me an idiot, but they've already taken away my precious EU, there's no need to change the shape of the wheel.

You idiot. No, I happen to agree with you about the AT-ATs, they look dumb imo but I get it. It never really made since that there were only 3 main types of stormtrooper armor...this is a MASSIVE military, there would be hundreds if not thousands of different armor variations.

It's a big universe. Just because we haven't seen it before doesn't mean it couldn't have existed in that time period. We saw ONE ATAT cockpit in the OT. Why should we assume all of them were exactly the same? There's no telling how many different models of ATAT's were built by the empire.

Also regarding shadow troopers, I happen to like the helmet design. Maybe they were like the Navy Seals where they were a small elite unit within the Imperial Army. Just because we didn't see them in the OT doesn't mean they couldn't have existed.

I agree but op was about it seeming forced and I tend to agree. The push is now to have women in lead roles in roles that were previously male dominated.

Rey was awesome in TFA. My daughter loves her. I think it's awesome to have a female in the lead role. That doesn't make the OP wrong or off base.

Ahh but see there's the rub. How do you determine when it's forced and when it isn't? Even if it is, why should we care about the studio's motives as long as it works and it makes for good movies/characters? Studios introduce characters all the time for no other reason than to sell toys/merchandise. That's a forced motive too but if it serves the movie well, that's all that matters.

IF it serves the story. We don't really know that it does.

I get that Star Wars lacked diversity and female characters in the past. I personally feel doing it twice in a years time, both white brunettes with English accents no less, seems a bit forced. It's like they are trying hard to pull the YA audience in.

Having said that, I don't think it will hurt the quality of the movie. I'm still looking forward to it.

Just re watching it, at first glance I thought the Imperial in the white uniform/cape was Tarkin but that couldn't possibly fit the time line. Also the coolest part of the trailer was the scenes with the Imperial Star Destroyer and the Death Star being fitted out. So far Disney has managed to create some iconic shots in the first two movies (Crashed Star Destroyer and TIEs coming out of the sun in TFA and now that).

Also is there anything more bad arse than an Imperial Star Destroyer? You can tell it was designed and built to be a warship, nothing as weak as those Federation ships

I'm holding out hope we get to see a few of the characters from Star Wars Rebels in live action form!

I guess I just haven't been paying much attention to the announcement of all these movies, but why isn't this following the story from the movie they just had in the theater? I would have thought the next movie would follow that, and not be one that fall between Episode III and IV

This is a stand-alone movie with no connections to the trilogy. It is how the Rebellion steals the plans for the first Death Star in ANH. The timeline the movie is happening in I would think is at least a few days prior to the opening scene of ANH.

It's not part of the main SW story, it's a spin off. It's called Rogue One (thread title is misleading), not Star Wars Episode VIII, which is due next year I believe.

They plan on doing "Episodes" every 2-3 years with anthology stories in between. Basically milk the franchise for everything it's worth.

In theory it sounds cool. I worry it will dilute the Star Wars.

A few years ago Lucasfilm was planning a TV Show that was going to be about smugglers and bounty hunters. I would like to see that come to fruition on Netflix kinda the Marvel shows.

This one isn't part of the main Star Wars films! This the first of several films that will take place in the Star Wars universe including a Han Solo feature that will begin filming this summer!

If you notice in the original Star Wars film now A New Hope in the opening scroll it talks about Rebel spies stealing the Death Star plans this the story of those Rebels!

The next film Episode 8 that follows The Force Awakens is currently filming for release in December of 2017!

I'm loving that we are getting new SW movies on the big screen but I've always wanted a live-action Star Wars TV series. The animated Disney shows are fine but they do leave a void.

Not only that, I'm loving that we are getting one every December. I'm all for this annual tradition of getting a new Star Wars movie at Christmas! It's like an early Christmas gift every single year!

They thought people didnt go see movies during the holidays because of travel and families spending time at home. That's crap because me and my family have gone to the movies during Christmas for years!

I've heard people talk about an under-world Star Wars series. Of coure it's just talk.

I'll be interested to see if they integrate anything from the "Star Wars Rebels" cartoon from the Disney channel. It's canon according to Disney. It's a good show if you can get over the weird animation.

It was more than just talk. They apparently wrote as many as 50 scripts!!

‘Star Wars’ TV Series: Live-Action Show Coming Soon to ABC? | TVLine

I remember back when they first announced it they said the biggest problem was production costs of sets and FX for television was the main. Thing holding it back. They didn't want it looking cheap compared to the movies.

One thing I've deduced for certain. There are no human female blondes in that galaxy.
