Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX)

Action-packed, for sure. It definitely explained a lot, good on the back story of Rey, visuals were over the top .... Just a little heavy on the cheese and didn't leave me totally satisfied. 3/5, certainly with the door open for more movies.
That’s the way I felt. Yes, it got a little cheesy in spots but it just is what it is. I don’t know why some people can’t just enjoy it rather than talking about it as if we’re interpreting the Bible.

On a scale of 1-10: Some parts of the film were an "11" ... some parts were a... D- ... hahaha...

John Williams & Co's last score was incredible - lending emotion where it wouldn't have been otherwise.

- all of the family schtuff got to me... it does every time, but it always kills me that Jedi can lift vehicles and themselves, and blow up ships,... but randomly have to climb a building or wall with their hands like everybody else. hahahaha....

- Kerri Russel - the first word that character said... I knew it was her. - don't know what that says about me. hahahaha...

- Monaghan from LOST should not have been in the movie without character makeup. His face and voice took me RIGHT out of the Star Wars world. I hate that they did that - and wonder what leverage he has on someone to get in with his own face AND lines.

We saw it at 9am - the price was right, and the kids LOVED it, so I'd do it again in a heartbeat. -Disney - hope you enjoy the money. You mostly sort a' earned it.

I will say Abrams putting his friends in movies does get annoying. Keri Russell at least wore a helmet.

So I think it was 2-3 years ago, either around the release of Rogue One or The Last Jedi, I was going to do a complete canon watch of all Star Wars movies and shows. I think I got through ANH and never kept going.

Well this past week I was off and since I have Disney + (well TLJ and Solo on Netflix) now, I watched every movie. A New Hope through Solo, and the The Clone Wars animated movie. I'm now into the The Clone Wars series and I'm halfway through Season 1. And of course I'm caught up on The Mandalorian.

So far TCW show is better than I thought it would be.

The media is blasting JJ for only giving Rose a minute of screen time.

Pretty sure 95% of Star Wars fans still think a Minute is still too much

I think it's a bummer for the actress. While the character was bad, I think Abrams could have used her a bit better. He should have had her die a heroic death or something like that. Or have her go with Finn instead of the new character that showed up. The way Abrams used her he might as well had her die offscreen before the movie started.

She should've died a heroic death last movie. There was a great opportunity for it.

Nothing against The actress, but that character is a waste of time in this trilogy

ROS has passed a billion but looks to finish well short of TLJ.

I feel bad for the cast of new characters but over all I blame Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm in general. The lack of planning created a mess of a trilogy. Should have never let JJ set up these mysteries in TFA then pass those off to a writer/director who had no interest in those mysteries.

Hopefully the next set of movies will be thought out before hand.

On the plus side, no pun intended, the TV side of things is looking to carry the franchise going forward.

It's like Warner Bros./DC Comics letting these directors put their personal spin on the characters instead of sticking to whats worked for 75 years sometimes it works in the case of Wonder Woman, Joker & Shazam. Sometimes it sorta works out like Man of Steel & Aquaman and then sometimes it ends up like Suicide Squad, Batman v. Superman and Justice League.

So fast paced. Jumbled and messy in an attempt to finish something that probably never should’ve been started. Nothing really makes sense in this trilogy, especially with how it relates to IV-VI.

They were cool to watch, with proper CGI and everything that did for the action, I’ll choose to just not think too hard about the storylines.

Did they have one plan/vision for the trilogy and where they wanted it to go? Or was TFA/TLJ/ROS each independent and the next group builds off that with their own ideas? Because that's what it felt like to me. Each movie telling a part of the story they want to see, but no communication or planning on how each part of the story would fit with the other.

I believe originally they thought Abrams would do all 3, but then he couldn't do TLJ. Then they had a person lined up to do Episode 9 who had a script or at least a story planned out that built off of TFA; his version would have had Luke and Rey face off against Snoke and Kylo, much like ROTS when Obi-Wan went to face Anakin and Yoda went to face Palpatine. But then Johnson's TLJ blew that all up and the one that was going to make Ep 9 couldn't come up with a storyline he liked so he bowed out.

Abrams may have had a vision for the entire trilogy but it wasn't something that Disney was married to. Episode 9 was their attempt at a course correction but they really didn't have enough time in one movie to do that. Someone at Disney should have been smart enough to realize that a trilogy that is connected to 2 other trilogies to form an overall saga is NOT the time to be letting directors have a ton of independent story elements. And the worst part is the side story movies were SUPPOSED to be where said freedom and exploration were to be encouraged because while they were connected to the overall saga, they still mostly would be self-contained. And it actually worked very well with Rogue One.

Pretty much that is what happened.

I don’t know if JJ was asked to do all 3 or not. When it was announced there were 3 directors lined up... which is fine as long there is someone overseeing the story of the entire trilogy.

JJ seemed interested in revisiting nostalgia fan service while throwing in some mysteries. Johnson had no interest in the mysteries and tried to push SW in a new direction. Not sure why the 3rd director bowed out but Disney got scared by the whiney fans on the internet and went back tonJJ to make a nice safe, fan servicey conclusion. The end result being a muddled mess of a story.

Disney will scatter the characters into a hodge podge of profitable spin offs, amusement rides, and cartoons.
