Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Episode IX)

The final dual between Maul and Kenobi is one of the best in all of Star Wars. 99% of the battle was fought before either one made a move.

I will give Lucas some credit though. He was very involved in Clone Wars and it was him who told Filoni to bring him back. The way I heard it though, George said do it and the writers asked how then he told them to figure it out.

I know this discussion has been had a dozen times but I do think there is a good story in the prequels but Lucas had no one pushing back on him to reign in the bad ideas. That lead to the mess the movies became.

Pretty much. Some of the behind the scenes documentary type stuff on the prequels is eye rolling, the way people around him fall over themselves kissing his a**. At times it even seems like he's testing them to see if they'll actually give real feedback, asking things like "Is this too much?" and they're all like "No this is perfect!". Plus I'm pretty sure the actors couldn't push back much either. McGregor didn't start criticizing them until a few years after ROTS, and it started with him saying things like "Attack of the Clones" was one of the dumbest names he'd ever heard of.

Right now the new movie is tracking around 53% on rotten tomatoes.

Phantom Menace was at 53% also. Seriously? This movie is that bad? I guess we'll have to see but I think we've gotten to the point that people aren't going to be happy no matter what someone does with Star Wars.

Maybe I'll be shocked at this new movie but seeing it 30ish points behind Sith (basically a cartoon with poor writing) makes me wonder if it's even possible to make fans and critics both happy with Star Wars

One critic that gave it a good review said it is "ruined with swear words." At this point, it wouldn't surprise me if someone drops an F-bomb.

The critics loved TLJ. If reactions are true and this movie spends the first act trying to “fix” the story choices of that movie, I can see critics being lukewarm to this one.

But I tend to agree in general about it being impossible to please everyone regarding the Skywalker Saga. I think people have their own expectations of how the characters SHOULD have been handled. Many older fans also wanted the tone to grow up with them so the juvenile aspects of SW that have been there from beginning now seem silly.

Ultimately Disney is to blame for not having a vision for the entire trilogy. They should have nailed down Abrams for all 3 movies or at the least nailed down what the entire story will be. Letting Johnson basically do his own way in the second one split the fanbase and left them in a tough spot for the 3rd one. And if the talk is true that this one is mostly a course correction (i.e. trying to undo TLJ), then you're going to probably piss off the half of the fanbase that likes TLJ and risk not even pleasing the half that hated it and wanted it corrected.

I fault Disney for this. But most who complain about Disney “roon’n Stahr Wahrs” project some silly “agenda” conspiracy.

I think the problem is they didn't have a Kevin Fiege running SW too. I mean they haven't been able to keep 3 main SW movies well connected with an consistent arc but on the Marvel side they were able to do it with 20+ Marvel movies (for the most part) and that includes working with Sony for 2 of them.

They should just reboot the Star Wars movies at this point. Start with Episode One and fix the crappy dialogue and acting.

I’d rather not reboot. Let the Skywalker Saga end. Plenty of other corners of the galaxy to play in.

Agreed. I think the origins of the Jedi and pre-republic era would be a great place to start

Hopefully this next separate trilogy revolves around the Jedi or force sensitive. If it’s just space battles like Star Trek, I won’t care.

Phenomenal movie. There was some expected corn at times, but the reviews and poor ratings have to be a ploy by Disney to lower expectations. I have zero clue how it can be compared to the Jar Jar Binks installment. i have VERY little bad to say about this. Great story. Awesome ending.

Just got out and loved it. I will readily admit I’m a simpleton and easily entertained but it was an emotional roller coaster and i have very little negative to say about it. A great ending to this trilogy in my opinion.

EVERYONE I have talked to that his seen this movie has said it’s nothing short of phenomenal.

I’m starting to agree with the marketing ploy by Disney theory.

Just got out and I felt it was excellent. Definitely some corn, but it was a really good flick. Checked all my boxes.

Just got done with the movie. It was a very good, I think it fixed the issues with TLJ. I blame JJ for his mystery box bs and not doing TLJ.

Yes... setting up the mysteries was not really a Star Wars trope. No one left ANH giving extra thought into who Luke’s parents really were or who Vader was under the mask. It was very straight forward and really self contained. Even the twists in ESB weren’t left to wild speculation despite ending with a cliffhanger.

TFA threw too much at the wall and fans went bananas when Johnson basically said he didn’t care about Snoke or Rey’s lineage. Not to mention TFA ending with the Luke/Rey stare down. That basically forced Johnson to pick up exactly at that moment which had not happened in a SW film to date.
