Star Wars vs Star Trek

Star Wars in a landslide.

Star Trek is ****in terrible.

I live 10 minutes from a small town called Riverside(IA) and they have a thing called Trekfest in honor of William Shatner being born there. It's like 10 rides, a demo derby and a talent contest. haha

Ill pray for you that you may find a better state to reside in.

Iowa owns yo! Not really but it could be worse.

Plus, living in downtown Iowa City in the heart of the University of Iowa campus isn't so bad. U of I chicks are smokin' hot.

Farmers daughters.........sounds great

Correct and compared to star wars it is Tolstoy.

I'm not claiming that SW is great literature, (like some people) it's a simple, basic story that had great characters and was well told. At least the OT anyway.

I'd rather have a simple story told well than a senseless overly complicated story that ends every conflict by essentially saying "God did it". Oh and its just happens to be a god that no one really believes in or talks about. It undermines every decision that any of the characters made the entire series.

Told well......lmao

When a cartoon series out classes the movie series.......you have major problems

You're gonna have to just admit defeat at some point. It keeps ending up with you having to bash Star Wars to try to keep Star Trek in the race. Star Wars wins this one.

/thread

Bizarre.......

Two uncomparable subjects and a fan boy is telling me to admit defeat?

Star Wars is not great story telling.......its the real world, not comic con.

Uncomparable subjects? I feel comparing the two is exactly what the thread is about

One of the big things to remember is that ST is basically a bunch of vignettes using the same setting. Other than the main characters and some ongoing elements (Klingons, Romulans, etc) one episode of ST was basically unto itself.

SW OTOH was basically one big storyline almost entirely focused around a specific bloodline. More than a few think SW is very nearly a case of throwing Dune and LOTR in a blender and adding some cutting edge special effects. Not that there's anything wrong with that per se, SW is some entertaining fare to be sure, but IMO SW is good not because of some great story but in the onscreen telling. For instance, at least IMHO, if you were to put SW in a book I'd put it behind Dune and well behind Tolkein's work. (I put LOTR ahead of SW onscreen too but that sort of thing is almost blonde's vs brunettes...some people just have preferences)

Yes, story-wise Dune far outdoes Starwars which is incredibly simplistic from a character standpoint.

It's a shame that no one did a good movie project out of it. The David Lynch treatment is interesting but full of wtf Lynchian stuff. Saw a lower budget mini-series of it that was decent but it needs a Peter Jackson style treatment.

OBTW - StarTrek over StarWars for not being a simplistic fairytale.
