State of the Union Discussion Thread

Does any politician?
Most politicians would have at least something tangible that they could point to and not just shotgun talking points like what he was doing.

Also, the speech felt like a campaign speech and not a state of the union address. He spent most of his time talking about things he's going to do rather than things he actually accomplished during his 1st year.

Sure.

Biden was my least favorite candidate on the primary ticket, and remains so. I liked the “Uncle Joe” of 20 years ago just moderately. He’s a lifetime politician, I tend not to like them inherently.

With that said, his speech wasn’t bad. He’s a meat and potato’s democrat, a true moderate and continues to push moderate issues. I think that’s a good idea right now. The divisions in this country, the political stalemates, require trying to find at least some common ground to try to push forward on progress. It was smart to mention securing the border and to flip the tone on “defund the police.” There was little mentioned that republicans could wholeheartedly disagree with unless they’re playing the partisan/contrarian roll. I liked the “United” tone. I liked the idea of capping insulin costs. I like the idea of international/universal corporate tax rates. Much of the rest were talking points that I don’t have much faith in passing without bipartisan bastardization.

He’s hard to listen to because he’s old and he stammers, but at least he’s a fairly relatable as a public speaker.

That’s all I got lol

OH = satire master

The bolded is either insincere or naive.

It did sound a lot like a campaign speech you’re right. Then again I don’t think braggadocio is Joe’s style.

I cannot watch the moron, so avoided it. But please tell me, did he whisper while leaning over at some point? That is weird as h#ll.

Well, it’s not like he has a single thing to brag about.
He’s been a complete cluster **** and did his best to sound Republican tonight

Most of them… but you asked the wrong question. The moderate nature lies in the agendas he didn’t push.

Do you disagree with:
Better mental healthcare
Opioid epidemic battle
Repairing police/community relations
Funding police
Going after pandemic relief fraud
Funding cancer research
Improving infrastructure
Transparency in election funding
Etc?

None of those things are “far left” agendas.

I’m not naive, I have zero faith in our legislature to get anything meaningful done, but that wasn’t the question. The question was about what he said.

I absolutely disagree with all of that being done at the federal level except for going after the pandemic relief fraud. My only concern there is they will be very selective in who they go after.

You disagree with infrastructure, police funding, fighting the opioid epidemic, and election fund transparency being federal policy items? Do you think the federal branch of govt is just gonna going to fold up and disappear or what? Talk about hopes and dreams lol
