We were dealt the bad luck of hiring Dooley after Kiffin left us so late in the cycle.I think Dooley was a good "manager", but he has his slip ups for sure. He was thrust in a position that he couldn't say no too... If you get offered the Tennessee job, you of course say yes in his position.... But he had solid coordinators those first two years... Bray's thumb injury screwed up that second year. I think had Bray and Hunter not gotten hurt, that is like a 8-4/9-3 year.
Dooley was dealt a lot of bad luck events, but he also didn't help himself either....
Dooley was lazy and openly bragged about being home by supper every day.
By some mathematical miracle, he lost to Alabama by exactly 31 points 3 years in a row.
He's the only coach I can think of in UT's modern history that never had a winning season (no I'm not counting Cornbread's vacated wins).
I believe he once signed an entire recruiting class without a single offensive lineman.
He was clearly a boy in a man's job and he set our program back a half a decade.
