Swear this is a lot of the recruiting forum 👆..........they dont get that meatloaf from mom by noon and they are some grumpy souls. I will quickly research a kids thread and get the heck out..........and I make sure to never post a question. (before I get blasted, its not all the recruiting forum, but you got a lot of apples that arent helping yall out as a bunch)

No wonder I remembered both names…I think Chuck was from the Cleveland area. He built the site and it was his passion. Thirty years later we’re still following the Vols on the message boards.

Those were definitely the days. People shared insider information -- FREELY if anyone could believe such a thing -- and there was no hard PR curtain keeping folks from sharing what they knew about the program. Much more accessible. And for a stretch there in the 1990s, the Opponents board was the biggest SEC message board on the internet. Had Gridscape not opted to go behind so many hard paywalls, or team up with that Insider network, I think they would have stuck around. Probably occupied the spot that Tiger Rant/SEC Rant has today.

And absolutely true on Signing Day. Back when Signing Day meant a damn, and when Tennessee was a legitimate recruiting machine, the signing day really was like another Christmas. Folks passing rumors of this fax or that fax on the boards for hours on end. I will never forget the live chats for that 2002 Signing Day. "They signed JT Mapu." "Is Mapu good?" "Five stars, man." "Hot damn!" "And he's Polynesian." "HOT DAMN!" Five star after five star. We seemed unstoppable. Boy was I in for a surprise. Ah. Memories.

Very well stated. I have noticed the same thing, most, it appears do not understand this. I noticed we had 21 recruits, Ga. had 28 so naturally they are going to be ranked higher. There is not a whole lot of difference, and I agree we are probably top 6 or 7 looking at it the way it should be looked at. I think maybe this is the last yr of sanctions?? not sure

Everybody said that this would be the recruiting cycle that we saw the big benefits of the 11-2 year....we finish outside the top 10. we have some nice players in this class but overall not anything spectacular. Will not compete consistently at the level we want if we aren't at least in the top 10 yearly.

on another note, i just want to say thank you so much for your wonderful insider knowledge. you are amazing :rolleyes: 🤡 😂

No offense but the recruiting forum is an insular mess of grown men bickering about the whims of teenage boys. Don’t get me started on their circle jerk football-talk and off-topic threads where I guess they are too good for the rest of the board.

Anyhow, i was neither praising nor complaining about this class so your rant wasn’t really directed at me.

Seems like this coaching staff is really focused on positions of need (like TE and DB this year) - a lot like an NFL team would be. That’s a stark contrast to previous staffs who seem to have habitually neglected (or were unable to close with) key position groups on a regular basis: the Dooley era where we didn’t sign an O-lineman for what seemed like two years is an example.

Personally, I don’t know how these coaches keep up with everything. It’s crazy with managing transfer portal chaos AND high school recruits all at once in December.

A positive thing to remember is that Heupel and co. have shown the ability to develop players too. So, some of these younger guys will probably end up being really good for us down the line.

Overall, we need to keep climbing the rankings if we want to get back to being a habitual contender and become a regularly appearing top 12 CFP team. However, it’s not looking too bad at the moment.

BOT is a moron when it comes to recruiting. He is so extreme that if he were right about the accuracy of the SUBJECTIVE recruit rankings actually playing games would be unnecessary. You'd just compare the number of 4/5* players and declare a winner.

He really has some kind of block and cannot understand that while those rankings are generally accurate about the guys given 4/5*.... there are actually more guys with 3* or less who have as much talent that aren't recognized. Obviously not all 3* are like that. But in every class there will be Jalen Wrights and Telanders.

Our average recruiting ranking is 11th nationally and 7th in the conference on the composite. Here is a breakdown:
