it’s taken a while for me to see just how bad most of our fan base is, especially when it comes to overreacting, but man the NegaVols here are so well represented.
80-90% of the forum never enters the Recruiting forum and probably doesn’t know many non starters on the team. Why is this is an issue? Because you see pop up graphics and don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes and why most (Minus BOT) are happy with the class we pulled (Plus a new 5 star we are getting a late OV with).
I just wanted to break this down for you guys, we are still in sanctions currently and have smaller classes than most with scholarship reductions. However, our average recruit ranking is still top 6-7 in the country, but you many of you don’t understand that.
I am quite happy with this class. Did we get everyone we wanted? No, but no one does. We will see who gets added from the portal moving forward to fill out any spots, but I am very optimistic for this and coming years. Great time to be a vol.

For the record, the "NegaVols" have been right about the program for the last two decades.it’s taken a while for me to see just how bad most of our fan base is, especially when it comes to overreacting, but man the NegaVols here are so well represented.

Please stop.Let me also say, I think most of you misunderstood what I was talking about. I was moreso saying that if people read the recruiting forum more, there wouldn’t be as much outrage on guys we really didn’t need or want anyways. No one wants to see our logo on a graphic on a kid we don’t get, but between scholarship reductions and competing with the big dawgs, we of course won’t get everyone. This doesn’t mean Heupel can’t recruit, because as long as we are around top 10 with slome top 5 classes, we will be in the playoffs every year. It just gets annoying around NSD when we don’t sign some player we weren’t in on all year, and everyone starts trying to bash the staff.
For the record, there's a difference between "being right" and "being unsupportive of the team at the slightest hint of imperfection, while acting superior to those who show excitement towards the little things". I watched "Negavols" act like our comeback win against Pitt last year was a bad thing. I then watched negavols trash other ut fans for being happy with our win over Florida. Then I saw these negavols say "we can't win in Death Valley". Then when we kicked their ass, negavols said "we're lucky it was such an early kickoff, otherwise it'd be a different game." Followed by "we can't win a shootout like that against Bama." Then when they did..... those negavols were real quiet until the losses to Georgia and South Carolina happened. They really showed up after those games to tell us how bad we are and how disappointing of a season 10-2 is after being projected 7.5 wins. when Tennessee beat Clemson in the orange bowl, we heard how it means nothing. If you ask me, that's a lot of examples of negavols not being right. I'm not a sunshine pumper, but im also not going to let guys who don't even know the names of our coaching staff/ underclassmen tell me that there's nothing to be excited about. Oh and btw, the bowl game we won last year is being played by Georgia and fsu this season. For the record, the "NegaVols" have been right about the program for the last two decades.
I think you are mistaking Trolls with NegaVols. Last season was amazing. But that has not been the case for the majority of seasons since 2001.For the record, there's a difference between "being right" and "being unsupportive of the team at the slightest hint of imperfection, while acting superior to those who show excitement towards the little things". Just providing examples. The thing is, Negavols are not "right" simply because negavols don't really ever have an opinion besides "we're bad and I told you so" with a dash of "they should just put me in charge". Meanwhile, they very rarely actually know how college football works. I guess Negavols have been right about a lot of things in the past. We have sucked for a while. But the drop off of support that I've seen this season after casual fans (who don't really understand how cfb works) expected us to compete for a playoff spot the year after we lost 75% of our production, really upsets me. Maybe I was raised different, but I'm going to support a coach who has proven himself to be a winner, has proven that he and his staff can scout/ recruit the right guys, and has shown that he loves it here so much, that he'll put up with whatever restrictions/ sanctions the NCAA will throw at him.I think you are mistaking Trolls with NegaVols. Last season was amazing. But that has not been the case for the majority of seasons since 2001.
Those were definitely the days. People shared insider information -- FREELY if anyone could believe such a thing -- and there was no hard PR curtain keeping folks from sharing what they knew about the program. Much more accessible. And for a stretch there in the 1990s, the Opponents board was the biggest SEC message board on the internet. Had Gridscape not opted to go behind so many hard paywalls, or team up with that Insider network, I think they would have stuck around. Probably occupied the spot that Tiger Rant/SEC Rant has today.
And absolutely true on Signing Day. Back when Signing Day meant a damn, and when Tennessee was a legitimate recruiting machine, the signing day really was like another Christmas. Folks passing rumors of this fax or that fax on the boards for hours on end. I will never forget the live chats for that 2002 Signing Day. "They signed JT Mapu." "Is Mapu good?" "Five stars, man." "Hot damn!" "And he's Polynesian." "HOT DAMN!" Five star after five star. We seemed unstoppable. Boy was I in for a surprise. Ah. Memories.
I agree with @VolBalla2014 , and what I think he's getting at is:I think you are mistaking Trolls with NegaVols. Last season was amazing. But that has not been the case for the majority of seasons since 2001.
