stock market was up today...

The Market is forward looking. All of the bad news had already been priced in.
Forward looking to what? Companies stopped giving earnings guidance.
And money supply is a function of both the amount of money on the Fed's balance sheet and the velocity of money in the real economy. This money is flowing into asset prices, but it's also flowing into the real economy.
"Don't fight the Fed."

What a crazy market. FOMO bull stampede - with valuations pricing the economy to forthcoming perfection. People are presuming a great deal - like the pandemic is done and/or vaccine will come to the rescue shortly, and the economy will make a "V" recovery. I've got egg on my face to date, but I still think we're just in an up leg of a bear market.

Any day now, you will be able to get back in at 16-18,000 DOW. Maybe tomorrow. You can't time the market. When you stay on the sidelines, you miss the biggest days.

The most important thing is that you learned from the mistake. With that being said being a long term bear is a losing proposition overall.

I'm not a LT bear. Was long equities until this year. People are stupid and shortsighted. The economy ain't out of the woods by a longshot, and I suspect we'll see a pronounced "W" not a "V" with the markets once it's all said and done.

Okay, then try to predict when to get in and out of the market.

Well now, that's what makes it fun, eh.
Not to me. I have been invested for around 40 years, and have never been out for even a day. I have always been invested, and that is why I have money now. Getting rich quick is a privilege for just a few souls. Getting rich slowly is easy.

Up 2.10% today... That put me back.

Now what could go wrong?
Yep. Me too.

Still have some Aerospace positions that are still down over 5%, but as a whole I’m back.

What could go wrong lol?

Trump could ratchet it back up with China. Here’s to hoping he just keeps his mouth shut, let’s everything run it’s course, and the economy slowly and steadily gets back on track... (we can hope, right?)

I literally know next to nothing about buying stocks but yesterday decided to buy four $50 stocks ( Apple, UnitedHealth Group, Tesla and Alibaba ). Not looking to get rich quick, although I wouldn't mind, but figured they were all "safe" stocks to buy as I slowly learn.

I'm thankful to have a good job that wasn't affected by Covid and even got a 5% raise so I'm looking to start investing while I'm young.

$50? What exactly did you buy?

Yep! It's like cooking on a smoker, low and slow. Some people always seem to be throwing hail Mary's and think they're going to get rich. I've picked some really good stocks in my life and sold them too soon or didn't invest enough in and some I timed just right. Some I was just wrong about and lost on. Now I just put it on auto pilot and let it ride. I'll take the average stock market return over doing any work.

Soon...

Man I was chicken **** and didn’t pull the trigger on moving around $600k into an SnP index fund at 2240. It jumped back up so I decided to wait... and wait... and wait... 🤬

Yeah - I've found trying to time the market is a fools errand. Never works out. It's so frustrating to look back on.
