stock market was up today...

I'm talking about as a trader. I rolled down a bunch of put options (for profit) on Monday, and when the market bounces back a little (volatility) I can either close them out, or sit tight. Either way, I had determined entry prices for certain stocks and now I have lowered that point for an even better premium. Hopefully, they expire OTM though. That's my ultimate goal.

As far as overall health though, I think it's good as it weeds out weak companies
It kills the little guys and consolidates their assets with the biggest fish.......I know in terms of the natural state of things that's how it works...... But aren't all those little guys a sign of a healthier economy?

Sure. But still I was speaking as a trader. I am unemotional about businesses that are public and selling stock. Except banks. I think they should all be regulated out the wazoo... Glass Steagall should be put BACK in place, and all those guys that were complicit in 2008 should be tried and go to prison. Start with Jamie Daimon.

I understand your position, and if I had some money to throw around I'd feel like you. But I just run a farm/rescue and am just treading water. Working two jobs. My daughter came to me tonight asking if she should join the military after bachelors. She's a senior this year but she's seen us struggle and she's scared.

I'm reassuring her she's investing in her future, the student loans are worth it...... And I'm confident because of her career choice. She wants to be a vet. The math works out. But she's worried about the burden, on us and her student loans.

We've told her not to worry about us, we're going to struggle in this economy regardless. That we want her to invest in her future. We'll help where we can without hesitation.

She's scared, I'm scared. It just sucks. We can't improve her or our situation, I don't care about our situation though. I just want her to live her dream.

The economy deciding to go schitzo doesn't help

I am very empathetic. And I'm sorry if I seem callous. That isn't my intention at all, and I will explain myself when I get more time to write.

No worries, I didn't take it personally. I had just come off a discussion with my daughter when she got home and then posted, more emotion was coming out than I am normally comfortable with..... Seeing your kids upset and scared knowing you can't do much but reassure them..... It's tough on a guy that always protected her ... Can't do that like I used to

Fed in focus. Do they cut rates? And supply disruptions MIGHT be on the horizon, though these things tend to get worked out in the short term:

IMO the markets are being cautious and fearful of Harris winning. If she/her/they wins just the ideas being floated of taxing unrealized gains and redistributing even more wealth from the best capitalists to the less productive and the inefficient government is counter to a strong economy. Banning fracking. Raising minimum wages above a supply/demand equilibrium. Bad policies and philosophies IMO. I don’t think they can successfully implement the wealth tax on unrealized gains, but they’ll certainly take more from the wealthiest individuals by raising their tax rates.

Trump suggesting extreme tariffs isn’t good either. But IMO all of that rhetoric is just a negotiating tactic. Across the board is bad policy. Hammering China and any of the wealthy nations exploiting an unequal playing field is fair game.

Either side needs to get serious about the debt/deficits. One side wants to grow the size of government and the other side might just be bat **** crazy enough to get rid of unnecessary government programs. The latter of which creates a lot of enemies.

Immigration - good for the economy.

Illegal immigrants - a big problem.

Interest rates - just stabilize them.

DJT has more than quadrupled in a month. Where are the leftists that were celebrating the pullback to about $12? As if it means anything as far as Trump getting a second term.

However after saying all that, I’m inclined to buy puts right now. But they are expensive.

Yeah I wish I had bought DJT too. Yet another missed opportunity for me.

It’s a really high premium for what’s still pretty much an idea. I haven’t deep dived into the DJT shares, but if I did I’d want to know what the subscribers look like. How many? What’s the growth rate? Unique monthly visitors?

Functionally I’ve never even liked Twitter/X. I’ve spent very little time on Truth but IIRC you get blasted with pop ups. Clumsy technology IMO.

I’m not sure if DJT is much more than a developing SPAC at this point. I don’t know if it’s a standard or customary, but it seems like those things set the initial prices at $10/share and have to return the money to investors or deploy it. I do think that DJT is well beyond that stage, but $50/share does seem to be way overvalued. I also think that Mr Trump is doing little more than lending his name for branding purposes. And he probably owns the votes to control it, but I don’t think he’s by any measure actively managing DJT.

Looking at the fundamentals, DJT is a $3-$5 stock. It has no revenue to speak of. Generates no operating income.

Speaks in buzzwords but there's no coherent plan to grow or monetize its existing product. Leadership has no business running a public company. (I'd be more optimistic if Linda McMahon ran the company instead of Nunes given her experience with WWE).

It's a meme stock that's being treated as a betting proxy for 2024. Trump is going to win next week and Id expect another spike. But after that, Id suspect he will unload shares and the stock will begin a long and slow retreat and will test the $10 level in the next few months.....

Buy puts.

Not if the share prices reflect reality at some point. I wouldn’t buy near term expirations. Actually my favorite option trades are opening cash reserved short put positions. But I need to like the underlying and be cool with owning the shares.

The $40 March 2025 put is $17....

Before I looked yesterday, I didn’t even know that DJT had listed contract activity.

I avoid taking any long option positions because of the price deterioration over time. But I might throw caution to the wind and shop around for some long term DJT puts. I can’t imagine the volatility ever calming down. I have little desire to own DJT shares so shorting the puts is probably a non-starter for me. I’d sure short the covered call options if I was long the stock.

The puts have been expensive the entire time.
Of course. They don't want us peasants to be able to make money that easily. 90% of your market makers are left leaning institutions and will short the 💩 out of his stock.

Wallstreetbets, the group that ran GME and AMC up in 2021 are the ones pushing it I'm sure once it hit $10 a share.

It’s one name I’d like to trade but not own. Usually I use investment capital the opposite. Just trade into positions. Peel of some premiums instead of simply having 95% of limit orders placed expiring with nothing happening.

WSB was hilarious. It was also tragic when firms like RobinHood locked out the peasants.

Looking at a few things on Finviz, something like 38 employees with a 65% insider holding. Institutions have bought a boat load recently, too. There's 200M outstanding shares but only a 75M tradeable float because of the insider and institutional holdings. So, with any volume, it can be volatile in either direction.
Not surprising, these market makers like Blackrock, Vanguard, State Street usually always hold long shares and short shares at the same time. They're "there" to try to keep a stock stable in either direction.
When a stock pumps they will sell off a bunch of long shares, average down on their short shares, and ride them in to heavy money. Average down on their long shares and start the process back over with their super computer algorithms.

The DOJ is being a problem again. Why block Kroger/Albertson’s when Walmart and Amazon dot com and plenty of other grocery chains are keeping them in check? Plus Target. Walgreen’s. CVS. DollarTree/Dollar General.

They did a great job saving consumers from that evil Spirit Airlines combining with Jet Blue. When Spirit liquidates is that supposed to bring down airfares?

A couple of 3 letter agencies trying to justify their existence. And also rile up the anti-capitalist voters.
