stock market was up today...

Our President Musk and his "stable genius" orange sidekick are doing a bang up job aren't they!

Tariff threat! Tariff! No tariff! Tariff withdrawn! Delayed tariff! New tariff threat!

One might go so far as to suggest Trump's 4D chess isn't chess at all - it's checkers. And he literally doesn't know how to play. Then he starts losing and upends the board and all the checkers into the air in frustration.

Trump is just an agent of chaos. The man has not one ounce of ability to *create* anything. All he can do is criticize, obfuscate, lie and ultimately just **** things up.

And Elon. OOOoooooooohhhh Elon. Used to really respect the guy until he took a hard right turn in politics. Now he is the douchiest of douchebags. Waving a chainsaw while he fires honest, hardworking people. What a piece of ****.

Love the fact that his Tesla firm and stock are tanking like a brick. First he blew up his $44 BILLION purchase of Twitter, now he's blowing up Space-X rockets and Tesla.

Maybe he should spend a bit more time trying to understand where his 14 kids came from. CONSERVATIVE VALUES. What a dick.
No one reads anything after " president Musk"

Dude, if someone asked you, "Would you rule out punching your wife in the face if she doesn't start cooking better food?", would you honestly say, "Well, I can't rule that out."

Come on man. Trump is an embarrassment.
Legitimate question: Given Trump thinks he has Presidential immunity to most anything (thank you Supreme Court members that he installed), could he and his family and friends be profiting off of all of this tariff stupidity? Think about it... if you or I knew in advance - with certainty - that Trump was going to pop a 25% tariff on wood imports from Canada, we could buy call options way out of the money. Then, Trump imposes the tariff, and voila! Lumber prices spike. Our call options go up umpteen-fold.

Then we sell our options. Then Trump reverses his original tariff and thinks revert to "normal".

No harm, no foul right? Yet, Trump and his ilk may very well be profiting off of all this ********.

Trump has no ethics. No morals. And he thinks he's immune to anything. Hell, he seems to be right for once... he literally got out of all of his criminal charges.

So what, if anything, prevents the Orangeman from doing this? Why should we believe it's *not* happening, and we're all being taken for a ride.

And, oh by the way, there has been harm from his tariffs. Long lasting damage. Canadians, for example, have simply decided "**** you, Trump", we'll just BOYCOTT all American products. OOPS! Guessing that wasn't what you expected huh, Donald? And guess who *actually* pays for all of this? You and me. And the stock market is flashing in BRIGHT RED that the Orangeman is leading us straight into a recession.

How about eliminate all waste, not just 1 side.

37% increase in 6 years after getting out of 2 wars plus another 20% this year. Waste is waste...

Look at LMT,RTX, and NOC stock the past month. Wall Street knows they aint touching defense...
This is something that annoys me about DOGE as well. Elon is intentionally completely ignoring the military industrial complex and almost entirely focusing on DEI. Why is he not targeting the numerous failed audits by the Pentagon?

I know why. It's because Elon profits off of defense contracts. He's a part of the MIC.

Yeh it should have taken down decades of malfeasance by now for sure.
So basically you're saying the US economy was all smoke and mirrors, and it took two silver spoon babies to uncover it all. One happens to have bankrupted a casino....a casino. That would make sense if i had a traumatic brain injury and snorted coke.

I see buying opportunities to load up on more stocks. It’s all in what you want to see.
True, but if your retirement is heavily tied to the stock market, I'm not sure they share your optimism. I told my wife that we lost about 15% of our gains in the past month. GS is doing ok for me and some medical stocks are doing OK.

I view that as how much time. I’m down 21% for the month, I’m heavy in tech and biotechnology. My 401K, I view the same with cheaper buys as it’ll rebound and I have time.

Trump and enough R Senators are bought and paid for by the MIC. Really not any more complex than that.

Hell, Trump trying to primary Massie because he voted against giving DOD another 20% increase just proves it.

Everything else to defend the DOD after years of failed audits and 11 figure cost overruns on planes and aircraft carriers are just talking points brought to you by the MIC....

Overreact much?

If you have cash to cover the taxes, this pullback is a great opportunity to convert traditional IRAs and 401(k)s to Roth accounts.

You can convert a portion of those accounts to Roths as well. You don’t have to convert entire accounts.

Check with your financial and tax advisors.

Edit: to clarify, use cash to pay the tax bill that is OUTSIDE of the account being converted.

Most of my IRAs are Roth. I’ve kept one Traditional (about 30% of the total IRA assets) in the interest of tax diversification in the future.

Is that completely off base? Should I just convert the last one?

I guess part of me wonders if the State will honor its deal, or if they’ll pass a new law and crawfish right out of that “no taxes owed” on those fat Roth accounts….

Without knowing income specifics, amount of IRAs, hard to really fathom a guess. But yeah, Im OK with sone type of tax diversification in the 1/10 - 1/3 range....

Not sure Id convert if I was in 35-37% bracket now.

If you plan to leave something to a charity when you check out, then there is not a reason to convert that money from a traditional IRA (or 401(k)) to a Roth. The charity would not pay taxes on the donation and neither would you by NOT converting. But required minimum distribution rules apply to you after a certain age (73 or 75 if born after 1959?).

You're a smart, educated person. Surely you see this.
Wait..there is an option not to do that?
