hey OP SC hadn’t scored more than 38 on anyone not named Charlotte or FCS SC State all year long.

SC averaged 21 points vs SEC schools.

38 is MORE than enough if the defense had just shown up.

Not to mention I’m confident the O would have been more successful had the defense not been so bad. Many times it becomes demoralizing. Even when you score your still down then the defense gives up another.

Where's the expectation that we actually run up the score when we NEED to?

You know the loss brought the stupid out in full force. You’re beyond dumb AF if you don’t believe damn near all of this loss is on the defense.

This is the only loss that's on our Defense. We are too thin and will be next year. People need to get over it and used to it over it until after next year. After that they should raise hell if we haven't substantially improved.

One reason we just scored 38 was because SC was busy scoring 63. A few stops would have given the offence more opportunities therefore only 38 points.

If we get 3 more stops, that's 21 less for them and probably 17 more for us. We win that game 55-42 and the whole season is different. The D just didn't get it done, period. It's one of the worst defensive performances in the history of the program. There is no and should be no sugar coating it. Nor is there any hiding from the fact that we are in the bottom two or three teams in the nation against the pass. Willie needs to go and perhaps Banks too, after the season. This is big time, big boy football. A decent, not great, but decent defense the past two years and Heupel is sitting somewhere around 20-4 at Tennessee. It's vital going forward that we take that step and we have to have the person that can get us there. So far there's very little indication it's Banks but I'll trust in Heupel to make the call. However if the staff makes no defensive changes and we are in the bottom 20 in any defensive category next season the blame shifts more heavily to Heupel.

Honestly I agree, our D has been terrible in games with quality opponents other than LSU, so we expect our Defense to be bad, the difference in this game from the Alabama and Florida games is the Offense couldnt put up enough points to cover the Defense, should they have to? probably not but this is just the team we have, the offense did not play up to the level it has played in those other games, if they had we would have been in a postition to win the game just like the others it would have went to the wire but we would have had a shot, point of all this is the difference in this game was the offense not the defense.

News flash. 38 points should have been plenty against a team that scored 6 points the week before against a Florida team that basically has quit. But it’s not enough when your defense doesn’t bother showing up and gives up 63. I can’t prove it but I am relatively sure that Josh left the entire defense in Knoxville and put Vol uniforms on Chucky Doak’s defense and ran them out there Saturday night. It was that ridiculous to give up 62 to that team. Yes, that debacle was ALL ON THE DEFENSE.

They found our weakness and they exploited it, I dont think anyone expected them to be able to exploit it to that level but it was very similar to the Alabama game in which they scored on nearly every possession too, but we scored on them on every possession so it didnt seem as bad, if you compare SC's performance from the week before then compare our Offensive performance against a much better defense in Alabama, we were off on Offense, we played to our norm on defense and it all culminated in a humiliating defeat.

I agree. I'm not sure why it seems to enrage people to say that our offense didn't play as expected either. We're a TEAM and unfortunately, both sides had issues and we got embarrassed by sc....it's really that simple.

Expectation??? Who the heck in their right mind thinks you can score 50 or 60 points EVERY GAME? On the road, at night in the SEC! Good grief. You need to come back to earth! I suppose we score every possession? 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

OP, I understand the nature of your post. Yes, offense could’ve done more to keep us within striking distance but consider this…Tennessee hasn’t given up 63 in over 100 years….our offense didn’t play a perfect game but the defense played their worst game of the year by far if not almost EVER in Tennessee history.

Momentum also is an intangible that we know effects college kids. On the road, hostile environment, can’t get stops, offense sputters a bit, SC plays outta their heads…it’s a perfect storm. Plus, Hook got hurt and fumbled which gave them another 7 when we were down 18….once Hendon went out, you could tell that killed any chance of a possible comeback.

Saturday sucked. We all know it. And we will always win or lose as a team. But we have to acknowledge that offensively scoring on every drive isn’t realistic but that’s what they allowed to SC’s garbage offense.

I AGREE......with EVERYTHING. The only thing that I will add is that we can't say that offense sputtered or that they were off, but that didn't effect the outcome of the game and its all on defense. What happens if the offense doesn't sputter and we have a shoot out like with Bama? Not sure...maybe it still ends in a loss.

I was reminded of the USC vs Utah game (loose example), USC has #2 offense and #96 defense I believe. They lost to Utah by a point or 2 and the game was a shoot out. I wonder if they blamed their defense too. They had to score 42 points only to loss by a point or 2. Did they walk away saying that they scored enough so their one loss is on the defense? Maybe they did.....I don't know......it just seems like a weak excuse for a TEAM LOSS. I played sports 30 years and if this is what kids are being taught in the locker room, it explains why kid now days have limited coping skills. Sports taught life lessons.

Appreciate the dialogue.
