Storming the field has gotten ridiculous

Go to an Eagles game.

This doesn't matter. It's college kids being excited about football. They're the ones who are going to be donating in 30 years.
Imagine the University asking students to donate years down the road after being beat up by security and imprisoned, just because they were excited that their Alma Mater won a big game against a rival.

Imagine arguing against a suggestion that no one ever made and thinking you make any sense.

There are the field stormings that are pure joy, like ours for Bama 1982 and 2022, and there are what now have become the majority, which is people (not going to blame it all on the kids) seeing how 'cool' it is and wanting to be part of one. It's become more of a Tik Tok, social media deal with thousands of phones recording videos to go "viral".

How do you stop it? By making it clear to fan bases it won't be acceptable and setting an example by arresting some people, I suppose. I'm not sure that schools have the stomach for it, but other than circling the field with cops and police dogs, I'm not sure what would be a solution.
Storming the field, apparently, happens in cycles. UT stormed the field in the ‘98 UF game, and it was awesome. Then more and more teams did it over the next few years, and it became a problem, with a few people getting hurt. Then schools started beefing up security. I remember being in the stands in the 2004 UF game, and there were about 50 security guards around the student section, trying to prevent the field-storming. One guy actually tried to storm the field. He got tackled and cuffed. Storming the field kind of stopped happening in the 2000s and 2010s. UT made it cool once again in 2022. I think the following next few years, you’ll see more schools with added security at the end of games, and fines being more heavy. The cycle will continue. UT might break the trend again in another 20+ years.

1982 Alabama game was the best ever

Well how else are you going to get those mean old fans to stop storming the field? After some more losses and disappointing seasons, the Tide will turn and they will be happy to see a big win and will likely storm the field as a result.

It’s not cool anymore. It’s played out. Yesterday, we had at least 3 games that ended in field stormings…two of which involved premature field stormings, following by another field storming after the game had officially ended.

It’s old. It’s played out. It’s really not safe. It’s destructive. And they’re now doing it for every minor upset win. Howdo schools, conferences, and the NCAA get this to stop? Fines obviously aren’t working…which was a stupid idea to begin with. It’s not like students care that the school is fined.

Are we gonna start putting up plexiglass like they do for hockey games?
Back in olden times when I was student age, I recall the field being circled with law enforcement. They were spaced out, not hundreds of them but enough to be a deterrent from field rushing. Guess we sucked for so long there was never a reason to rush the field so they became unnecessary.

Let's recap...

Arizona State.... stormed the field AND took down the field posts BEFORE the game officially ended. Against a 15th ranked BYU.

Nebraska stormed the field over a 5-6 Wisconsin.

OU stormed the field for the first time since 2000 last night.

I agree with you, I really do. BUT….to me, it almost feels more like a relief of pent up energy and stresses leftover from Covid. A rebellion in a way to rules and lockdowns.

It feels silly to watch a team storm the field after beating a team that’s 8-2, but whatever. Tennessee shouldn’t have stormed this year after the Bama game, however 2022 was definitely worthy of it after all we Vol fans have been through.

Let the kids have fun. Or would you rather them celebrate blue city style and set cars and busses on fire, and loot the Nike store?

I guess storming the field is different than it used to be. I don’t have a problem with people having fun and storming the field, but I still view it through a lens of prestige . Auburn has better history than aTm. I think it’s above them to rush the field after beating a #15 aTm squad that hasn’t won any championship since in a very long time. OU fans talked a lot in the offseason about their history and how they’re one of the best programs of all time. That’s cool. You beat a not top 5 Bama team. All Time programs probably shouldn’t do that. The kids had fun though .

Auburn is an Under Armour school and they already disturb the peace, cause problems in the streets and harm public property after wins. Who knows what happened to the poor livestock after the Kick 6?

Fans need educated.
Storming should only happen if three conditions exist.
1 - the team is ranked top 3 or 4 in the country.
2 - that team holds a streak of more than 5 wins in a row over your team.
3 - your team is ranked lower.

When UGA comes to Neyland next year and we are ranked say 8 or 10 and they are 1 or 2, when we beat them for the first time in 10 games, the field will be stormed.

Yes, for those keeping up, I was not a fan of storming when we beat Bama this year.

It seems like it happens anytime ALABAMA gets defeated. UT vs UA in 2022, this year, at Vandy vs. Alabama. There are others.
Just shows what a foothold and domination Alabama has had for the better part of 40 or so years.
I agree, it's not safe.

All of us complain that college football isn't what it used to be.

Storming the field may be the last college tradition that survives in this world of multi-million dollar players, billion dollar media deals, wholesale transfers, poaching players and recruits with big money offers, etc, etc.

Complaining about storming the field is like walking up to your neighbor standing in the street watching their house and entire life burning and saying "You could mow the yard once in a while, ya know. It's killing the neighborhood property values....."
