Storming the field has gotten ridiculous

There are the field stormings that are pure joy, like ours for Bama 1982 and 2022, and there are what now have become the majority, which is people (not going to blame it all on the kids) seeing how 'cool' it is and wanting to be part of one. It's become more of a Tik Tok, social media deal with thousands of phones recording videos to go "viral".

How do you stop it? By making it clear to fan bases it won't be acceptable and setting an example by arresting some people, I suppose. I'm not sure that schools have the stomach for it, but other than circling the field with cops and police dogs, I'm not sure what would be a solution.

Lol. How do you weigh the criteria for acceptable field stormings? Obviously orange is definitely factored in.

I was referring to any stormings as not being acceptable, and was being somewhat facetious with the police dogs bit.

I'm kind of torn about it, because it's something that makes college football (and sports) different and unique, but it's become clearly a 'thing' for people looking to be part of and get attention.

I think the influx of storming the field is a direct result of the increased parity in college football, brought on by NIL/Transfer portal.

It was epic to us, most other people don't really care.
While I donā€™t want to see it again (ā€¦ ever! hopefully, we come to expect victories and games like that), from the news media coverage, and the pictures of all the cigar smoke rising out of Neyland Stadium, it garnered a lot more attention than your average field storming. There have been a lot of ā€œrushing the fieldsā€, but some of them are more historic than others.

Everyone wants to have the party we had in ā€˜22. Itā€™s like Woodstock, it canā€™t be replicated.
I couldn't agree more. I was on the 1st row on the opposite side of McGrath's kick. Didn't bother to climb over the wall but helped many people do so, even folks I knew gravity wasn't going to be kind to. I knew at that moment I would never again have an experience like that in a football stadium ever again. Some moments just can't be recreated, but I have some incredible memories and pictures that will last as long as I do. Still get chill bumps.

3. Tennessee. All 3 of their losses this season have resulted in stormings. And something like their last 12 in a row.

At some point, weā€™re complimenting the hell out of them.
Yeah it's gotten beyond weird to downright embarrassing. Nick Saban is gone, folks.

Some of you guys should visit a nice peaceful soccer game in Europe or South America and you'd think just storming the field is boring.

It's not really over until the riot police and ambulances come.

I like a good field storming/tearing down the goalposts but some of these are kinda head scratchers. OU storming the field for a 2 loss Alabama? Arizona St. storming for a BYU team that had just lost at home to Kansas?

I blame us. The 2022 Bama field storming was a genuinely awesome sight that people have poorly imitated and for the wrong reasons, ourselves included. It has jumped the shark.

It should meet at least a couple of the following criteria: a thrilling finish, a win over a top 5 or at minimum a top 10 team, a win over a rival that you havenā€™t beaten in sometime, maybe a win that allows you to accomplish something major. Our win over Bama this year was not worthy of a field storming. Auburnā€™s win over A&M looked nonsensical when they stormed the field.

I agree with OP. If a team beats the #1 team or ended a very long streak, then storm away. Vandy beating Bama...totally awesome. Auburn beating TAMU...cool story, bro.

How dare they have fun.
If watching a live ball game from the seat you paid for isnā€™t fun, what are you doing at the game?

Also, where do you draw a line in what is acceptable fun? Surely it would be fun to throw things at the other team when things arenā€™t going our way.

I would draw the line at getting bent out of shape in any fashion at students rushing the field. Your point does not apply. We are not talking about assualt in anger. We are talking about students rushing the field when they are celebrating. Just mind your business if 20 year old kids piss you off.
