students have bought less than 7500 tix

The reason why is because of the money. End of story. Even if it is 1 dollar, students would be showing up less. It is a slap in the face to the student body. Attending a college should mean you get to attend sporting events free of charge.

I'm sure you realize though that there's basically nowhere where it works that way.

I can understand maybe sitting out WKU or USA, but I flat don't get not laying down $10 to go see UGA on a sunny afternoon in October. You don't have to get up early. You can still have plans for Saturday night.

That's because we are hardcore fans, many students are not.

I'd guess that most students aren't hardcore fans. But if you're already on campus, and it's Saturday afternoon, how hardcore do you need to be to wake up and walk over to the stadium for a couple of hours?

As a student in the 80's I would have never made the walk if Tix weren't free.

Isn't it a little comical to think that tickets are ever actually free?

fixed for accuracy. That's it in the SEC

look at what students at Ohio St pay and see if UT students can still complain. $10/game is not anything to worry about

$10 tix are a bargain and I would be buying them for every game. Like I said before many students are not fans and getting them to pay is a tough sell, especially right now

It's definitely not a unique phenomenon. I've been to non-Tennessee games at UGA and at SC the past 2-3 years and their student sections look weak too . . . and they're winning 10 games.

Still free at S Carolina and other schools

It's more expensive at a lot of other schools. Ohio State and TAMU are 2 that are significantly more expensive.

UT is setting itself up for failure with asking almost half of the student body to show up for this game. Jesus Christ. 12,000 tickets for a 27,000 enrollment school.

If students aren't buying, the school should either give them away or sell them at student cost. You want to put people in the stands, sell the ticket to people who want to be there... not some weak ass undergrad who whines about low 80s and no twitter for 3 hours.

they should start offering them to local high schoolers if the UT students don't claim them. Get the section rocking and create new fans in the process. Bet they'll cough up $10 to sit in the student section

Absolutely, but maybe free tix might help change this trend.

As a fan and Alum, it is sad to see those seats empty.

I was at the WKU game and there were tons of middle/high school groups there.

Great idea. Keep that $10 price and sell them by lottery.

I like this idea.

this is a new phenomenon that i don't understand.

this is a problem at a lot of places and a problem at florida.

most of those empty seats for the tennessee-florida game were student seats.

i don't get it because it isn't money.

Maybe we can try putting iPhone chargers on the seat.

How much is the student activity fee now?

The full fee is $372. You have to pay the full fee to get student tickets. You automatically have to pay the full fee if you take 9 or more hours of classes, but if you take less (like myself and many other research-oriented graduate students), you have the option to pay the difference in order to get student tickets. For example, the required fee for 6 hours is $186 and the required fee for 3 hours is $93.

Perhaps it is just my situation, but having teenage kids of my own, I have noticed some things about them. They may like football, but given the choice, they would rather spend time with their IPhones, computers, and game systems. It seems that nowadays the only teenagers that give a real crap about sports are the ones playing them. The times are changing.
