Capacity was 92000 and there were over 97000 there. Quite the crowd.
I seriously believe this is when the "SEC! SEC!" chant started. Of course, we weren't cheering for the SEC, just that we won it.
Why should I as a student, Vol fan or not, waste my hard earned $10 and four hours of my Saturday when I already know what the outcome of the game will be? Every Vols game in recent years has either been a blowout win against an inferior opponent or a blowout loss against a formidable SEC opponent. The atmosphere is boring, frankly.
Like others have said, winning changes everything. And no, I'm not talking about routing a D2 opponent with high school talent. I'm talking about actual games against formidable opponents. Only then can you criticize the student body if we don't show up.
Just to note, I'd gladly spend ten times that to travel either 3 hours west to Nashville or four hours east to Charlotte on a Sunday and watch a game in which the outcome is not a foregone conclusion.
You're complaining about the atmosphere being boring at Neyland, and UT being a bad football team...and yet you'd drive 4 hours and pay 10 times that much to watch the Panthers?? You been to a Panthers game chief? A game at Neyland and a game at BofA stadium, the two do not even begin to compare; and if you think otherwise, I seriously question how you were accepted into UT. No offense.

There are a lot of people that don't understand there is more to being a fan of a team than being conditional. Same with anything you devote time, money, etc to. You're with it through thick/thin good/bad.
Also, Chris Treece just said: "Students, don't be Dooleys. Actually show up on game day." Boom'd.
As a student at UT I'd rather spend my 10 bucks on beer than watch that utter crap on the field at Neyland. I still wouldn't go even if tickets were free. The team sucks, the stadium is a dump, no alcohol is allowed, and you are exposed to the elements.
I'd much rather sit in my apartment with my 40" flat screen, invite some friends over, and get drunk while watching Worley complete more passes to the other team.
Are you sure about that. I remember getting a card that had about 100 numbers and each one was an activity on campus...plays, exhibits, and ball games. You had to have an activities card to get tickets and the cards were punched.
I was there from 90-94.
Section D-I on lower level and DD-II on upper lever. Basically 40 yard line to corner of end zoneAnyone have a number on how large the student section was in the late 90s early 2000s?
Cause, again, they're trying to fill 12,000 seats with a 27,000 enrollment. Of that, only about 21,000 are undergrad. Graduate students are a different beast because they might have gone to a different school for undergrad.
Those just aren't smart odds. I'm actually impressed they even moved 9,000 tickets. Who knows, though, maybe they get all 12,000 tickets moved.
Then we'll see how many actually show up and how loud they are.
The guy has no idea what he is talking about! Activity card covered tickets to all sports and use of student facilities (the bubble).
Nah...it's the accumulation of stench from the urine bombs you guys throw (instead of tailgating like normal fans) down there.this is a new phenomenon that i don't understand.
this is a problem at a lot of places and a problem at florida.
most of those empty seats for the tennessee-florida game were student seats.
i don't get it because it isn't money.
I bet you play call of duty for days at a time..
You represent a whole generation of weaklings who would rather stay inside out of the "elements" than get out and enjoy life first hand. Smdh
