Sugar Bowl: #2 Clemson v #3 Ohio St (ESPN, 8PM EST)

Textbook. If you lead with the crown of the helmet, you’re basically asking to be kicked out.
The risk is more to the tackler on a play like that. The targeting call was correct. This is the type of play that can cause paraplegic injuries. The defense players are always taught to keep your head up when tackling.

on one side it was the shoulder but the crown of his helmet was square in Fields back

I am curious about the definition of crown of the helmet but I believe this issue is once you lose sight of the runner by lowering your head. Maybe he would still be in if his facemask initiated contact.

Fields turned into his helmet. The ejection is BS.
Sikarsky lowered his head and initiated hard contact with the crown. Big No No. I don’t think Sikarski deliberately did it but the rule is in place in this case to protect the tackler from neck/spinal injuries.

Do you mean targeting is BS? For sure this was targeting according to the rules!!

I understand targeting to the head but I don’t agree with trying to make a clean tackle and getting ejected because a helmet contacts a players body. Runners are not exactly stationary targets.
