Sumlin pursuing Chavis..

Maybe some of you who are cutting on Chavis can clear something up for me. How many bad defenses has LSU produced since Chavis has been there? How many great defensive players has he put in the NFL?

There is not a consistently better DC in the SEC than Chavis. Some of these comments are put right stupid. I would take Chavis over Jancek in a split second.

How many times has Chavis not had elite talent from top to bottom since he's been there? Hes a very good coach, but he's far from a world beater.

It is not stupid to point out the number of times a Chavis defense has allowed a go ahead TD drive of 60 yards or more in the closing minutes of a game. That is not stating an opinion to be argued with. It is a matter of fact.

I would agree that Chavis is a very good DC but if your team has a 23-20 lead with 1:18 left in the game and the opponent has the ball at their own 14 with all of their timeouts....you should be nervous as hell with a Chavis lead defense regardless of how talented you are.

By the way, the above scenario was not randomly selected. It is the '00 Florida game and we had best D line in college football that year (Henderson won the Outland Trophy).

Can't say the same about Jancek just yet, if ever, because he's honestly gotten some of the best underrated talent and some very good 4th/5th year players on his side (and by underrated I mean, Barnett is a top 10 HS player if you re did rankings now) and it's looking like talent won't be a problem anytime soon.

This is lunacy.

Our defense this year was literally made of duct tape and guys with patched up body parts. We have exactly three game ready defensive tackles, all of which are severely undersized. Our starting WLB is a converted safety. Our starting DE is a converted WLB. Our starting DT is a converted DE who came to UT weighing 240lbs. Our likely starting CBs for the bowl game had a combined total of 5 recruiting service stars, and one of them was previously committed to noted football powerhouse UNC-Charlotte.

If you think Jancek, Strip, Thig, and Martinez didn't work some borderline miracles this year putting guys in position to make plays, I don't think we watched the same team.

Supposedly Sumlin has reached an agreement with whoever it is already. The basketball team is advertising that the mystery man will be present for tonight's game.

That appears to be a marketing ploy.

If it were Chavis, he'd have to leave his bowl game at half time.

LSU: The Advocate reports LSU defensive coordinator / linebackers coach John
Chavis has not signed a three-year contract worth $4 million and is upset about a clause in the deal, which states that, if Les Miles were no longer head coach, Chavis would only be paid for the next six months. The paper reports LSU has also offered Chavis a two-year deal without the clause. Texas A&M continues to pursue Chavis for their defensive coordinator job.

-Coaching Search Ticker

And this from recruiting forum...
Hearing Chavis is gone after game...$1.7 per year
LSU reporters saying he is gone... Getting 4 yr deal

Anyone else hearing anything?

I posted about this earlier in Ugo's commitment tread to the corn dogs. I figured Chavis was TAMU bound because Sumlin stated in Memphis he would have his DC hired before the end of the week. I will bet Ugo wishes he had not announced today now to LSU.

My question is, how does everyone see the Amadi, Phillips, Martin recruiting playing out, especially if Chief snakes any of their respective pisition coaches?

I see this turmoil in there defencive side of the ball as good for us. I think distance to TAMU helps prevent us from losing these guys to TAMU. But I see CLM now having to defend his defensive recruits from being raided by Chavis. All good from my persective for the VOLS!

I Think Phillips goes VOLS because TAMU is to far for mom to ever make a game, Amadi might flip, Martin already being out in the midwest might do TAMU but if all his family is in GA and TN then I see VOLS, ALL VOLS.

Again schools that want to play for championships step up n pay the big bucks... their ad understands u have to pay to have the best coaches...

Look at Michigan they knew they had to have a home hire to get back to competing for championships n now sumlin understands that..

Hart n cheek not so much.. lets hire coaches on the cheap n pray they at least make a bowl n place in NCAA bb tourney

I hope cbj wins championships but nothing this staff did n 2014 gave me warm n fuzzies..without a cam or tebow like qb our off will struggle against the big three..
