Sumlin pursuing Chavis..

He did a good job, goodbye.

I think TAM is paying a lot of money for something that ain't going to work but ole well that is actually good.

It will probably hurt LSU slightly short-term as is the norm but with the right hire it could be good. Will have to wait and see.

Credit Sumlin for going out and making the big hire.

I'm not sure that Chavis will have the success at A&M that he had at his other stops, but I guess we'll see.

Either way, 3rd and Chavis has to be an improvement for A&M. Simply forcing a 3rd down would be an improvement.

Solid hire but a warning to A&M fans. Get ready to be happy and really mad. Even ND exposed his weakness.

The weakness this year was zone read with a running QB... despite how things turned out and what is popular to talk about. He is a good defensive coordinator, not sure its going to help TAM as I have been suspect for some time that a new DC would help much.

Hey man we lived it for much longer than you. I get it. He's real good then you get kicked in the nuts. Hold a team all game except the last two minutes...A 90 yard drive while the DB's are playing 10 yards off the ball and the LB's are nowhere to be found over the middle. LSU will be fine.

Hold on a minute!!!

Remember in 2008, we all complained that Chavis was old and he cost us games by playing the prevent defense?
Remember we said that the only reason he stayed at Tennessee so long was because no one else wanted him to be their defensive co ordinator?

I say we don't make the same mistake twice. Let him stay at L.S.U. or head to A & M.

Remember, we wished that he would go elsewhere and he did. So, we got what we wished!!!!
How many times when he was our DC, did we see the exact same thing that happened to LSU last night against Notre Dame?? Opposition gets the ball last goes down the field and scores last minute winning the game? I really like Chavis, but let somebody else have him.

Bo Pelini should have waited a few weeks.

I hinted at some of these guys to wait a few weeks ago as there was going to be additional shakeout.

I like Robb Smith as a dark horse, young, doing a great job with limited personnel, low salary, 4-3 scheme and working with confidence and momentum. If it works out for a few years, then tell him he can be the HC in waiting.

Unless A&M also signed all those DT and corners LSU has....

Recruiting is not a problem there, matter of fact a good portion of the ones that sign there were often times pursued by LSU.

I don't think their problems will disappear, but we shall see. If I practice flag football during the Spring and Fall, and then during the week... exactly what are the chances of playing tough when the I go and play real football? My guess, not good.

With that said, LSU DL still can't figure out the zone read with a running QB.

Speak for yourself. Some of us never wanted Chief and/or CPF gone. There is no doubt Chief would still be an upgrade at DC at just about any program in the country, certainly including UT.

Y'all can discredit his accomplishments to fill your own agendas all you want to. I'm tickled we have him and excited to see how much of an impact he has on recruiting the best La and Tx have to offer. We've finally invested in trying to contend for the West and I am hopeful this hire, & those that coincide with it, prove to be a turning point to address the putrid defense we've experienced the last decade.

Chavis will build a defense no doubt. Texas is a hotbed as is LSU. Talent no problem. He is an upgrade there and A&M fans should be happy. I am happy for you.

I am thrilled. Regardless of what's been said, he'll bring a toughness to A&M's 'D' that's not been seen in years. Part of me wants to drive to Powell and knock on his door and say 'Welcome to Aggieland!'

I believe he's at Bright complex as of an hour ago & staying at the Hilton tonight. May run to the republic a little later to see for myself. But regardless, that was the internirary that I was told.
