Florida is not going to crumble like a lot of you apparently think. They may not be the force they were in the 90's, but they will still be strong in time.
It's hard for them to be really bad for any length of time purely because of where they are located and the resources that get put into that program. Even if the people running the show are inept, you'll eventually trip into hiring a good coach, trip into recruiting some guys, etc. Hell, we Vols know that ourselves - John Currie hired Tony Vitello and Dave Hart hired Rick Barnes.

They can struggle for periods, or underachieve for even longer periods, but thinking they are just going to fade away, never to be heard from again is a pipe dream.

If it worked for you and your kids, great

I was stating nothing "main stream" and my observations were based entirely on my own personal experiences.

Also notice I stated nothing about professional success. I simply stated that at least in my day, the homeschool kids did not fit in that well. Believe I also stayed that there were many more of them now so I'm sure things are probably different.

By the time you reach middle school, I always viewed school as more about learning to deal with people more than actual book knowledge. This is where most homeschooled kids fell short, not the knowledge aspect.

My opinion and I will stand by it.

FYI, had three homeschooled kids in my friends group around the time I started college.
1. Got knocked up about 5 months into freshman year. Finished the school year out and nobody ever saw or heard from her again.
2. Guy is currently a Door Dash driver. Failed out after two years. We still keep in touch. Hit me up about a month ago to borrow $400 for a car repair. because he had no cash and no assets to sell.
3. Last but not least, my former roomie. He's been on death row for about 25 years for double murder.

My point there being, it's not a guaranteed recipe for success.
State or Federal death row inmate? If state, which one?

Not calling you out, but you hit a statistical trifecta there. Got any advice on lotto numbers?

Ole Sunbelt Billy currently has a top 5 ranked 2024 recruiting class
Yeah. He was brought in to recruit. While the QB backing out of his NLI was a bad look, a couple of top 5 recruiting classes can potentially cure alot of ills. I think he's the guy.

State. South Carolina. If ya want, I can PM you the name? It's actually a quite famous case apparently. The trial was one of the first on Court TV (is that even still around?). Unknowingly bought a book about the case one time in a rushed purchase at an airport book store. Didn't even know when I bought it. Got on the plane started reading, got like 3 pages in and noped that book right into the seat back where I left it.

Buddy, this made me laugh but I do not blame you a bit. That was definitely a nope.

Yeah, the book incident has been about 15 years ago.

Oxygen or ID (one of them anyway lol) also did a thing on it. They usually play it around the holidays. I block off those channels around that time.

Just realized I do not have PM capabilities on here to send you the name. I will ask one of the mods if there is a way to get it to you in order that you can see I am not making this up ha ha.

Don't worry about it. Would be neat to read up on it as crime stories are one of my interests. Thanks.

I wouldn’t go that far, talent can only get you so far. We haven’t seen anything promising about his ability to actually coach a game.

Thanks I’m a true crime junkie so I’m fascinated. Would love to hear any stories you have

I wish I could say I knew it was coming, but I didn't.

We were all just your average frat boys. Most of my close friends group from that timeframe have experienced issues in one form or another. Jim took it to the extreme though and drank himself out of college.

He hung around Atlanta for a while afterwards doing nothing and one morning we woke up and he was gone. Got a voicemail from him one time later so we called and talked to I guess his mom who told us he was at work (At least I believe that is what was said, we found out later he was in jail at the time)

The book is called Family Blood. The show ID or Oxygen did a few years ago was called "Thanks-Killing" or something similar. I have not read or seen the show for obvious reasons.

We didn't know about any of this happening for like 9 months or so afterwards. Kind of found out by accident and thought somebody was pulling my leg. Early days of internet back then but I was able to verify that what I had been told had actually happened and had the task of passing the news along to our other roomies.. Was actually studying for a grad school final while his trial was on Court TV. Very surreal experience.

Crazy, I imagine it was just surreal hearing about it.

UF will be mediocre this year. No QB and depth is problematic at key spots. Assuming things stay on track with recruiting and key players don't get bought out from underneath us:

'24 will see a turn around. Depth issues and inexperience at QB will still hold us back from contending for the East, but rumblings will be there.

'25 we contend for the East and beyond.

'26 could see UF as a favorite to win it all.

Do you think Napier gets that much time? It's probably going to get ugly this season.

I truly wish the kids I have taught that were homeschooled had parents like you.
Where does your daughter play violin? That's awesome! We need more artists enriching our communities. We can never have enough artists making communities better for everyone.

My anecdotal personal experience has been very different.

Had two sisters enroll last December, 6th and 8th grade. Both Homeschooled since 5 years old. The 6th grader could read four words per minute (The a's and an's in the reading passage). The 8th grade sister didn't know half of her alphabet, and could read zero words per minute. Neither knew their letter sounds. They were each placed in their age-appropriate grade, with Kindergarten reading intervention ( the state dept. of education doesn't allow school systems to place students in classrooms with younger students, regardless of ability). They have to do their reading intervention with 5 year olds.

Zero consequences for their mother. Social worker tells us in TN that is neither parental neglect nor abuse each time this happens. No consequences in TN if a parent does this to their children.

Our school faculty and staff have had these situations where children have been taught to read and have some success, but it is rare. It is difficult to learn to add and subtract when in middle school math being taught functions and Pythagorean Theorem.

I have seen this scenario play out repeatedly in rural counties. Not all are so extreme, but this happens at least once per school year in our small community school. Too often.
Since we are all tossing around anecdotal evidence, I will toss out mine…I have several friends that homeschooled their children. In every case, probably 20 kids or more in total, the children have been better educated than the average public school peer. In most cases the kids have been well-adjusted, a few a little eccentric. In all cases, the mom was a stay-at-home mom and the parents both placed a high value on education. In most cases, the dad had an advanced degree - PhD or MD. To me, valuing education and recognizing the time commitment are the keys to making it work. BTW…none of the kids played college sports.

Napier is locked in for another two seasons, regardless of how badly 2023 goes.

Any reasonable UF fan paying attention can see this current roster is hot garbage.
And again, your roster is still far better than UTs. Florida was still a very talented team. Vandy didn't out talent you guys. Kentucky, and even UT, didn't out talent you guys.

talent is a piece of the overall puzzle, but its not what gave yall a 6-7 team.

look at Mincey, couldn't get a job on your 6-7 team, got some starts on our 11-2 team.

You had a first round draft pick QB, you had 6 guys drafted vs our 5.

you had a Top 15 roster, and ended up #38. seems counter productive to argue that talent is your issue when you aren't performing at your talent level.

going into 2023 the ONLY place lacking talent is QB. you will likely have nearly twice as many 4* as us, and maybe 5* too.

what's the critical mass Napier needs? he need 3x the talent of everyone else to get a winning season?

Exactly, I’m not convinced the man can coach

And that’s okay.

The bad news is that he's recruiting well. I hope UF goes all Mark Richt with him and keeps him in spite of underperformance... for years. If they hire a competent coach with that talent then it could be rough.

He has not impressed me with his in-game coaching.
