Super Regional selection

One thing is for sure. The boys in orange have a really big chip on their shoulder right about now. This will be an incredible motivation to be snubbed by an organization that has no semblance of fairness.

If this is true and works in our favor, then what is all the whining about? Would we rather think highly of ourselves then lose at home like last year? Be thankful somebody.

For me, it’s about awarding our players and their families with what they’ve rightfully earned, which is playing at home in front of their fans.

So according to WVLT yesterday evening, the NCAA says we are not hosting due to inadequate facilities. #1, this is a BS excuse because we hosted the two previous seasons and we did a fantastic job of it. #2, when do the stadium renovations and upgrades begin?

we hosted the 2 previous Regionals as we were the #1 seed last year and well within the top 8 national seed the prior year. Its automatic

I get that. But if inadequate facilities is the reason the NCAA gave for this year, I still call BS. Almost identical overall records, neither in the top 8 national seeds and USM had to find their way out of the loser's bracket while Tennessee never lost. Oh, and Tennessee had a higher RPI and SOS. Going back to some of the other posts, this definitely smells of nepotism. Sour grapes? Maybe. But I don't feel like Tennessee was ever seriously considered to host the Super.

But then the other question: when do the renovations/upgrades begin at Lindsey Nelson?

The reality is currently Southern Miss has a much better facility than LNS—including a larger press box to accommodate media, a more modern and updated stadium, and about 1K more “seats” which is actually just available space for Standing Room Only (SRO) tickets. Trust me, I’d rather TN host, but these are the facts whether we like it or not.

My understanding is we have more chairback seats than Southern Miss. Our GA seats are labeled and chairback so that each person is ensured a seat that is truly their own. Southern Miss can’t promise that GA will actually get a seat, unless they are there very early. I might be wrong, but I’m not sure their situation is better than ours. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Let's be clear - USM has more "standing room only" area available. The actual number of "seats" as published by both universities; I believe shows LNS as having more actual seats for someone to sit in.

Published capacity in terms of "actual seats" ..... drum roll .... because this argument is not valid .... USM 4,300, LNS 4,387.

4387 > 4300

Those extra seats are to stand somewhere without a seat.

Yep, SM crams folks in with SRO tix and I’m sure the concession and rest room lines are enormous.
LNS lists 4,045 with another -1,000 of SRO (I think they now limit SRO to around 600) and largest crowd at 5,086
SM lists 4,300 with another 2,000 of SRO and largest crowd at 6,346

The reality is that SM can accommodate about 1,200 more fans (comfortable or not).

Yep, that’s why I stated that the 1K additional “seats”at SM were actually SRO. The reality is SM can accomodate about 1,200 more fans. If you re-read my post, just stating the facts. I do wish someone would uncover their bid vs our bid.
6,346 > 5,086.

I saw a post from @Stoerner Fumbles in another thread and he seemed to indicate that bids were in Southern Miss’ favor. He must have some specifics.

I think SM was highly motivated to secure the Supers for their retiring Coach and to continue momentum from last year’s Super. I think they likely submitted a high bid to ensure they would host. I wish some media member like John Adams or Wes Rucker would submit a FOIA request to view the bids. That would put this speculation to rest.

Yeah, that would be interesting. I think Mike Wilson might be the guy to do that. He’s pretty aggressive and forward-thinking. Maybe we will get some answers. Thanks for all you do for Vol sports.
