Ironically Gaffin turned out to be the best pitcher we have had since the Renfroes and she wasn't even recruited as a pitcher.
Are the Weeklys going to stick with Geer in the 5 hole until the bitter end? If so, the bitter end may come tomorrow. Geer has been a excellent leader and has had a good/very good career--but she has been BRUTAL the last four weeks + of the season. She has been an absolute classic rally killer in the 5 spot: Our first four get on base, get things going...and she makes an out. The first four get hits and walks...and she makes an out. You have to put somebody else in the 5 spot--Bearden or Weimer. We get 11 hits today and Geer was 0-4 and left four runners on base, including two in the 7th inning. You hate to see her career fizzle like this, but you can't keep her in the 5 spot.
--The Weeklys should have worked on changing McSwain's swing starting about two years ago. I've said it before, as have others, you just cannot be a decent hitter with that very long, loopy swing of hers. Good hitters have short, compact swings and take outside pitches to the opposite field. The inability to do that is why our 5-8 hitters are struggling. McSwain will be a senior next year--and that's very late to mess with a kid's swing, but it's worth trying because it is hard to see her playing otherwise next year. She had the great series against Kentucky--and I'm not sure she's had a hit since! The irony is, I think McSwain has the second most home runs on the team, despite her poor average. This has to be one of our worst power-hitting teams in years. It is a good run-scoring team, thanks to our top 4, but I think Gregg alone has close to half our home runs.
I want to have a good feeling about tomorrow--but don't. When you have a team all but beaten, you have to beat them. When you don't, you often get burned. A&M will be jacked up and full of confidence tomorrow, and our pitching is an issue. Our top 4 are capable of winning it for us--7 of our 11 hits today--but there is only so much they can do. We've kind of maxed out as a team given our lack of production from the bottom of the order and the limitations of our staff.

I agree on Geer. She is hitless in the last 7 games. She has 0 hits in 16 of the last 22 games. Her batting average in those last 22 games is .136. Her average has dropped 120 points since April 1. It's not time to drop her in the batting order-it's time to give her a day off and have her available to maybe pinch hit
Arnold has to get tougher and more intense no crying in softball.
As stubborn as Ralph is yes is the answer on Geer.
I listened to Ralph in the press conference and he said that they expected CJ to make that catch that came off the wall because she is a great centerfielder not a good one. No good one could have but she thought she should have got back and timed the jump better. I got hammered on this thread for basically saying she should have had it but she herself thought so as well. She is a great one and has proved it all year.
He thinks Matty is a little tired and Caylan is still a little star struck as young as she is and being from Knoxville as well. He said we had to hit better as we all know. I don't think anyone asked him about the the baserunning blunders but there were 3 I remember.
JMHO as always!:thud::loco:
I didn't say she cried someone else did and I was saying if she did then that is unacceptable. So move on and verify from the person who said it if she actually cried or not. If she did that needs to stop you have to be tough and aggressive in any sport.LIES! She never cried and She is tough. Lady Vols don't need fans like you tearing them down. They didn't even make it to super regionals last year. She learned a new pitch just a few days before regionals and did well against USC Upstate. She is still developing.
Ive coached softball for years, there is nothing she is doing that's illegal. If she was, every coach would be all over the umps to call it. She doesn't lift her foot, she doesn't step out of the plant box, she doesn't overstride, I guess I'm confused

100% agree. She was a pitcher in Colorado but we only wanted her as a full time player. She saved our rear ends a lot of times. I have stated in the past that for some reason we do not really like our pitchers to play every day. Cant remember the last one that was a pitcher first that did. JHMO:thud:

South Carolina 9 Tennessee 1 (6 innings)
Florida 9 Tennessee 0
Texas AM 5 Tennessee 1
3 of our most lopsided losses this year. What do they all have in common? We came back and beat those 3 teams the next day. Come on guys. Texas AM has a good team but so do we. We had more hits and more base runners today. We've hit Show - we've hit Harrington. We've seen McBride enough now that hopefully we can adjust if we see her again. We are at home. Don't be so pessimistic
