Super Regionals/World Series

On the question of who is best since Ellen, are you guys just arguing between Gabriel and Gaffin? Or are you counting Moss and Arnold too? How do you really pick something like that. Between Gaffin and Gabriel - Gaffin had a better ERA every year they pitched together. She had a better winning percentage and she gave up WAY fewer HRs. But she didn't pitch quite as many innings and she didn't start nearly as many games. She had the benefit a lot of times of coming in after the other team had been through the lineup a couple times against Gabriel-and then she switched their eye level with that heavy drop. It's really hard to say who was best. Gabriel gave up about 20 more HR in her career but they had completely different styles. Gaffin stayed down so much with that heavy drop that her misses were more likely to be in the dirt. Gabriel pitched up so her misses were more likely to get yard.

If you throw Matty in the argument-she easily has the best career ERA. Last year when all 3 were on the team she had the lowest ERA of the 3 and walked by far the fewest. And if you can forgive her for this past week she easily had the best full season of the 3 statistically.

And Arnold statistically had a better year this year than Gabriel or Gaffin ever had. Lower ERA-pitched more innings than either of those 2 ever did.

I would say Gaffin had the single most devastating pitch of the three. When she was on she would start the ball at the knees and the catcher would scoop it out of the dirt. And some days the hitters couldn't lay off it. But some days they could lay off it and she'd have trouble.

After much consideration I come to the conclusion that................I don't know

I am not arguing but I responded to a post that Gaffin was 100% the best pitcher since Ellen. I actually agree that when all is said and done Gabriel was the better pitcher, however I would have traded her for Gaffin anyday because Gaffin could do it all. For me that was not counting anyone since them. :)

Agree with you, SCC. I would take the total utility of Gaffin over the pitching of Gabriel. But based on pitching, I would give that to Gabriel. Partly, Gabriel's stats are skewed by injury. But as for her entire career at UT, she could be relied on to pitch full or mostly full games. The others (Gaffin, Moss) were just fill-ins or closers.

I'm happy that all of these young women are LV's. The discussion about "best" is simply for discussion purposes.

Who is best is pretty subjective so I wouldn't quarrel with any of them. But it seems odd to consider Moss a fill in or closer. She pitched 50 more innings this year than Erin ever did in a season and Matty had 14 complete games THIS year. Gabriel had 19 complete games in her CAREER. And Moss averages more innings per appearance than Gabriel did. Erin averaged 3.4 innings per appearance for her career so she either pitched more in relief than you remember or she didn't finish what she started as much as you remember. Probably a little of each

It is amazing how this Barnhill pitcher for Florida can crow hop on every pitch and not get called....The refs have no stones to call it.

With Gabby here, and a revitalized Arnold, Moss will become even more of a killer in the circle....She and Arnold just wore out at season's end....

The umpires are not going to call Barnhill for crow-hopping until the Weeklys and other coaches start complaining about it. I have no idea why they haven't as she is CLEARLY cheating. I was surprised that none of the reporters who covered the UT softball team didn't ask our coaches about her and her delivery prior to the Florida series--but they rarely ask trenchant questions--it's all public relations.

I'm disappointed we're not in Ok. City--we blew it.

Hard to believe lsu is in the winner's bracket in ok. city. They looked pretty bad when we played them in red stick--but better when they whipped us in the SEC tourney. NCAA needs to move the championship series to other cities. A home crowd for national championship series? That's BS--plus who really wants to go to oklahoma?

Is what it is. When the ASA HOF was looking for a home, nobody and I mean NOBODY wanted it in their city. OKC said yes and has financially supported it and the stadium for years. And the WCWS will be there thru 2035 so get used to it.

in their city? It brings in fans and business. Was the host city supposed to pay for its construction and operational costs? I can see that being an impediment--but otherwise, what towns don't want more visitors?

As for the stadium, there are plenty of stadiums good enough to host the final eight. New stadiums being built (a&m), others will be expanded, I'm sure. I'm sure Lee Stadium will be expanded at some point.

ASA HOF stadium is adding upper decks and permanent outfield seating and restructuring press box. 2019 will see a very different stadium. New stadiums are being built but I doubt those stadiums will hold 20K + as ASA will do. Besides, it gives the sport a home to call it's own and probably keeps cost down as going to other sites yearly require bidding process with the NCAA

Yeah, I don't see the issue with the WCWS being in OKC.

CWS is in Omaha and no one complains about that.

Well, from Knox you're driving 16 hrs each way. Every time, unlIke a rotating schedule. Not easy to fly unless you commit for the whole 8 days... even if your team loses.

Does seem a bit unfair for an every year advantage for OU just 30 minutes away. The crowd does love softball though, and fans are there for all the sessions not just OU's games.

WEATHER is a big issue. Had tornadoes a few times. It is the tornado capital of America. Dangerous. Players spending all night in underground storm shelters.

Just saying, it's a mixed bag.

Ok. City also means that Oklahoma--which is often in the Championship Series, as it is THIS YEAR and was LAST YEAR--is playing at home. That is rather a big deal, IMO. Plus, why not move it around? There are more seats in the OK. City stadium than in a lot of college stadiums, I think, mostly because it has been expanded and renovated over time. It is apparently going to stay in Ok. City for years--which is good for that town but not really for anybody else unless you like going to oklahoma regularly.

Florida beats LSU, moves to the semifinals.

LSU switches to bracket #2 in the losers bracket

Oklahoma beats Washington to move to the Semifinals

Washington switches to bracket one into the losers bracket.

Both Oklahoma and Florida only need to win one game to move to the championship, both would have to lose twice for someone else to go

Stop with the home field advantage crap. OU has to earn it like everyone else.

OU had to play Florida State in Florida for the national championship in 2000 - football

OU played Florida in Florida for the football national championship in 2008

OU played LSU in New Orleans for the 2003 football national championship.

That's the way it goes. You still have to play.

And there's a lot to do in Oklahoma City nowadays than say 10-20 years ago. Lot of great restaurants, entertainment districts, Norman not being far away for that college flare. Definitely a lot more appeal than Memphis, Nashville.

I'll give you memphis, but nashville? Nope, no way. Nashville gets the nod every time.
