I should find another team to support bc I don't think we will beat 3 teams that are 33-3 against us over the past 36 contests? Heupel's first 3 years can be a big success without even winning a game against UGA, FL, or BAMA. I am going in with realistic expectations. Overtake Mizzou and Kentucky in the first 3 years and I will be happy. Position ourselves as the definitive 3rd best team in the East within 3 years and I will be happy. We have to worry about taking our rightful place over KY and Mizzou before we can even think about UGA, FL, and BAMA.That's fine. Its all opinions at this point. Makes me wonder why you don't find another team to support.
Don’t have to OVERTAKE Mizzou and/or Kentucky...already passed em.I should find another team to support bc I don't think we will beat 3 teams that are 33-3 against us over the past 36 contests? I think Mizzou has a winning record against us since they joined the SEC... KY, well we always find a way to beat them, but most view them as a team on the rise. TN has been a team on the decline for over a decade. We are closer to KY and Mizzou than the other 3 imo. Doesn't matter how, just want to get a firm grasp on that #3 spot in the East and then work up from there. I don't think you can just discount KY and Mizzou and jump to the big 3 when Mizzou and KY have beaten us much more than we have beaten the big 3 jmo.Don’t have to OVERTAKE Mizzou and/or Kentucky...already passed em.
Won 2 straight against Mizzou without much of a direction. Takes an epic bad season for Kentucky to beat us. How convenient, use the most recent results when it fits your narrative (Mizzou). Then ignore the most recent results when it doesn't fit the narrative and use the long view (KY).Won 2 straight against Mizzou without much of a direction. We’re dealing with now. That the CONVENIENCE frets you is a bonus. How convenient, use the most recent results when it fits your narrative (Mizzou). Then ignore the most recent results when it doesn't fit the narrative and use the long view (KY).
You can discount them all you want, but both will probably be favored over us this year. We have had the upper hand on KY since the SEC expansion. We lead 7-2. Mizzou leads us 5-4. Regardless, if you look at it short-term (last year's results) or long-term (head-to-head record since SEC expansion), we win one and lose one.
If Heupel can get us consistently beating KY, Mizzou, and SC (we lead 5-4 over SC) and winning 7-9 games a season, he will be a success here. I will always hope for more but will expect less.
Pre-Kirby I would agree but I don't see it now. Florida this year will probably be the weakest opponent of the next 9 against the Big 3. I still doubt we'll have a reasonable shot at them, hope I'm wrong.I could see us catching UGA on a bad day and squeaking out a win. UF and Bama? We will not beat them in the next 3 years.
Not necessarily at you, I wished I had a dollar, heck I’ll lower it to a nickel for every time I’ve read “hope I’m wrong” on VN.Pre-Kirby I would agree but I don't see it now. You didn't fret me lol. I am having a friendly conversation on a message board with another vol fan. What is there to fret about? I think that claim is just wild and misguided. I just pointed out your inconsistency on how you judged programs. That is all. If we are dealing with now, then we are what last year's record says we are. Better than Mizzou and worse than KY. Simple as that. If looking at it long term (since SEC expansion), better than KY and worse than Mizzou. Regardless, I would be happy to follow last year's pattern and split with those teams this year. We’re dealing with now. That the CONVENIENCE frets you is a bonus.
If we're dealing with now Kentucky passed us. Can't have it both ways.
I hear you but I'd really love to beat Florida this fall. Talk about jump starting the Heupel era. That would do it. I don't see it though, but I do think our shot against them this year, however minescule it is, is better than against Bama or the Pups. Not necessarily at you, I wished I had a dollar, heck I’ll lower it to a nickel for every time I’ve read “hope I’m wrong” on VN.
And I think it’s more than reasonable and well articulated. Your “recent” is one season...mine trends severalYou didn't fret me lol. I also gave one that shows several years (head-to-head since SEC expansion). But you wanted nothing to do with that. Instead, you pulled a 2-year sample size for Mizzou and an unspecified one for KY (I assume that was implied to be 2 years also?). I just think when comparing you should use the same sample size, otherwise, the analysis is useless. If they are both 2 years, then it is 1-1 against KY and 2-0 against Mizzou. I wouldn't consider 1-1 having a firm lead over KY as a program. Regardless, it doesn't matter. Long way to go to compete with the big 3. Hopefully, it comes sooner than later. And I think it’s more than reasonable and well articulated. Your “recent” is one season...mine trends several
