It is true, but we still need to be grabbing top instate talent and legacies. Clemson has been doing pretty well stealing from our backyard. If Saban hangs around then Alabama will likely win one with Simpson. Plenty of Tennessee kids that can help us and we need to keep them home...as well as hitting Georgia FL the Carolinas etc.

I agree with the argument that you go get guys who want to be here regardless of where they're from. My preference is that the guys in the trenches come from within state and have a tremendous amount of pride in running through the T. My thought has always been that if those guys doing the dirty work all game were 100% Vols, then they'd put the extra work in to get that extra yard every time. I'm sure it's probably just some weird presumption on my part.

As for the guys who don't choose to be here, I know everyone says, "they're kids, hope they do well wherever they go", or "I'll root for them when they're not playing UT", "business decision" or whatever. For me, kids that have the option to rep for UT and choose not to are the enemy, and for that reason I hope they fail. If they're not for us, they're against us. So whether it be these guys, or Simpson, whomever - I'll not wish them well, I'll not root for their success, if they dawn any colors other than Tennessee Orange and White, then my only hope for them is that they not get injured on their way to failing, and wishing they'd chosen better. Probably overly harsh I know.

Move on .. they dont want to come here then ok .. we move on .. its not like they are 5 star kids ..if they do go to Ky ..I think they will regret pretty soon ... Heipel I think is gonna do a great job here .. If the brother who plays QB in HS wants a shot then say hey we give ya a shot .. dont work out then m0ve positions .. maybe CJH has done that who knows .. we cant be worrying about kids who are 3 stars ..

At least the PWO’s are pouring in.

Truth is (and a sad truth) none of these HS kids have ever seen Tennessee put a good product on the field in their lifetime. Never.

UT is like NC State, Kentucky, Arkansas, etc....to them.

I’ll bet good money that 75%-85% have never heard of Reggie White, Tim McGee, Keith DeLong, Travis Stephens, Travis Henry, or Charlie Garner............they don’t care about the past.

These are among the highest rated kids we have a shot at this year so that’s as close to five star as we are going to get. Everything points to our 2021 roster being better than 2022 and 2021 is worse than last year, not a good trend.

you have to give these guys a chance .. under the cloud of the mess that CJP left us ..its gonna take results on field to wake up some of these kids .. hope they regret going to KY .. and if the kid is the UK QB then I like our chances ... I think he fit better in a WR or Safety role ... but maybe he gets that chance that Ky says he will get .. they have pulled that ploy before .... dont be fooled young man !!!

That's a FACT. And it has only gotten worse and even more irrelevant the past 5 years

Yeah it matters because let’s face it.... we’re not going to be reaching into Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and it appears North Carolina now, and taking their respective best players.

Those kids are all going to their UGA, UF, UNC or Clemson, and Alabama.

So to consistently whiff on the in state 4 and occasional 5 star, it’s a big deal. We don’t have the edge with those kids like our rival states do.

Of course, it’s largely because of how dysfunctional we’ve been - but that doesn’t change the diminish the importance of it.

I’m fairly certain you can check the roster of every 10 win Tennessee team and find it littered with a high number of stud in state players.

I honestly think only about the past 4 years matter in recruiting. Everyone wants to point out how historically good UT was. But that doesn’t matter as much as the past 4 years... Dabo has Clemson as a current power. No recruit looks at their past and thinks yeah... but you sucked for most of your schools history!

UT isn’t OSU, Clemson, or Bama. Stop comparing UT to them. We haven’t won 10 games in 15 years. Live in the late 90’s all you want but I’ll be here, in the present.

Recent Vols history agrees with me. We had a better roster than UK, USCe, Ga St, BYU, Ark, Vandy, etc when all those teams beat us.

We won’t be beating the likes of Bama, Georgia, and Florida anytime soon. That’s expected.

However, you’re right.

There’s no reason we shouldn’t be able to compete with UK, USC, Arkansas, and Missouri.

Maybe Heupel will work out, maybe he won’t. Time will tell.

We shouldn’t be comparing ourselves to the big dogs of college football because we are no where near their level right now. In the 90’s? Sure. This is a new generation now like you said.
