Supreme Court agrees to hear NCAA athlete compensation case

Saban is good. Swinney routinely got waxed early on. Doesnt now because his defensive line is stacked with 5 stars. They are good coaches but the talent differential is too wide.

I dont even get mad at a UT coach when they lose to Bama now. It is like watching 8 graders play 12th graders. It isnt a contest.
Swinney did get waxed, but figured it out soon enough. Big-Time, figured it out! I disagree with your simple explanation of the UT-Bama disparity. While they have the BEST players, our players are good enough to be much more competitive. The biggest disparity is in the coaching. I would agree Saban is like a professor coaching against a 1st grader

I guess they’re spineless unless it has something to do with a place where politics doesn’t need to get involved.

A couple of considerations:

A lot of college athletics will go away - particularly women's sports.

If you don't believe that athletes are compensated, then consider the student loan "crisis". The horror stories about student debt should pretty well quantify the fact that athletes are getting paid very well. If the issue is that athletes are basically indentured servants working their way to the NCAA or NBA, take that up with the pro sports who use college athletics as farm teams.
men’s athletic scholarships will be hit the hardest due to title 9. They’ll have to have an equal number of scholarships for both men and women.

That's why I say a lot of other programs - particularly women's - would just go away. It the sport doesn't exist, then Title 9 considerations for that sport go away - unless some federalist tyrant dictates the athletic programs that every school has to have. Unintended consequences.

Coaching does matter, but the biggest issue is depth. Bama has people buried in the depth chart that would be starters at most schools. That does two things - keeps fresh people in the game, and keeps those players off other rosters.

Don't forget also that when the NCAA limited coaches, Bama developed a whole host of non-coaching coaches. If an assistant leaves, Saban just dusts off a rehabilitated ex-head coach and plugs him in. Assistant coaches can do a lot more when they have assistants to the assistants running around doing the leg work.

No no no no no no no. College sports are dead the moment money enters the players' hands.

Hahahahahahaha. Let’s just take Auburn. They are gonna pay a guy 21 million dollars to NOT coach. Multiply that times all the other buy outs over the next four years and the last four years... lol, yeah, how many college sports teams could benefit from all that institutional waste.

No one shows up to a stadium to see the coach call time out, they show up to watch the players.

I don’t believe it works like that. Schools will have to provide equal number of scholarships for both men’s and women’s sports. For every football scholarship the school will have to provide a female athletic scholarship. That’s why I think there will be a reduction in football scholarships to somewhere around 50 max.

Swinney figured out he needed more talent and then got that talent. He didnt cross some mental Xs and Os mental border.

Our playere are not good enough. We get a Trey Smith and the fanbase believes we are on the way! Lol. Bama looks at Trey and says yea, he's good, but we have 8-10 of him.

I didn't say we had good enough players to beat them, but we do have good enough players to be more competitive with them. Our whole offensive line are big time recruits, but certainly don't play like it because of sub par coaching. Swinney also has some damn good assistants. We don't.

Its chicken and egg. Everyone looks great when they are coaching superior talent.

Ok. For the record, Clemson's national championship wasn't won with a bunch of 5 star recruits. Check their recruiting rankings for the 4 years prior to the championship season. It always helps to have the best players. My point is that coaching matters too.

Yea, he made the break thru with a dynamic QB. That can overcome alot, see the Dobbs effect at UT.

It's a talent deal now. Butch Jones could coach that Clemson team to a playoff appearance. It would be difficult to find a coach that couldnt.

Superior talent in coaching generally attracts superior talent in recruiting. These 4-5* guys want to make it to the NFL and are going to places that will coach them up to get there.

That's why I said chicken/egg.

Is it the great coaching attracting great talent or is the great talent making the coaches look highly competent.

It's the great coaching that is attracting the great talent. Just look at Bama pre Nick Saban.

With a good QB we would be 6-3 or 5-4 at worst.

Totally disagree with the Jones' claim. Check with Alvin Kamara
