Isn't tithing a commandment of God? How do you do that if you are the Church?

I'm not claiming to be biblical scholar. I was just asking. The churches I went to growing up, were like this. I'm not trying to start a debate. That's the first time I've heard of some these things on your posts. I thought maybe something had changed.

each "group of believers" is to have a Pastor/Elders/Deacons........Jesus established THE Church......my point to LG was that he does not understand the Bible and is confused about their being "branches" of THE Church

The church is not a building, the church are the followers(saved) of Christ.

Christ is the head and leads the church.

I agree with you. It's been a while since I went to church. I was brought up in a very strict Independent Baptist home. I question a lot of the things I was taught.

If I questioned something I was told the following....... "Because the preacher says so."

If it were any one but you it would be fun.

I could bring over 100 verses about the body of the christ being the believer, but really, what is the point?

I feel your absolute pain.

I grew up in a Distinctively Indy Baptist Church.

The church slogan is, What good baptists churches used to be, we still are.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I was just wondering how you were interpreting scripture. I promise it was an innocent question.

And why does tithing need to happen at an organized church.

The only purpose of a walled churched is for fellowship.

Most churches just stick with singing and preaching but do not help christians with their problems.

Churches should help people with their bills, drug abuse, grief share, etc.

Churches fail absolutely at this aspect.

Here's a few examples I was taught..........

1. Rock and country music is of the devil.

2. Alcohol and tobacco is of the devil. ( Even though they used wine for communion and two deacons smoked outside the church before coming in. )

3. Anything but a Republican is of the devil.

4. Dancing is of the devil. ( Footloose? )

5. Cussing is of the devil. ( Deacons )

6. Shorts and tank tops are of the devil.

7. T.v. is of the devil. ( Yet, everyone had one. Even our pastor. )

8. Any bible other than the KJV is of the devil.

9. You can only trust a preacher that wears cowboy boots. ( I'm not making that up. )

10. The Independent Baptist Church is the true Church. ( It's lineage can be traced back to Christ. )

11. Baptism by submersion only.

12. Lord's Supper for church members only. No outsiders.

13. Christmas is of the devil and shouldn't be celebrated.

I could go on, but why? I think you see why I question some of these.

It doesn't, why?

If you actually went somewhere on Sundays that is what they tell you...despite what you personally believe. And they cite chapter and verse.

Let me ask you this, since you think walled churches are so horrible at actually doing God's work for their flock, do you think they should enjoy tax exempt status?

My Church has 8,000 members. Only 10% of us tithe and we met our 3.7 million budget last year. The tithe is a choice made by each Christian. It is between that person and God. I am 100% sure that I have been so blessed in my life because I tithe.

I forgot a few. For the ladies............

1. No makeup - The devil.

2. Dresses only. In and out of church.

3. Wives obey your husbands. Your work is in your home not outside of your home. ( That means no job. )

4. Women are to be silent on all matters in the church.

5. Women are to wear a doily on their head in church. Some type of covering that resembled what my grandmother would use on her furniture to sit plants and flowers on.

6. Absolutely no women preachers. ( Once again, of the devil. )

7. Fried chicken every Sunday. No exceptions. At least that's what it seemed like.

Churches in North America are lazy and most have no interest sharing the message of christ. So when you say horrible churches, yes I would agree. Church in North America want the government to share christ for them. So yes, get rid of the tax exempt status!

I am a member of Genoa Baptist Church. Do I think it is a perfect church, absolutely not, but it is the finest church that I have ever been around. We reach out to any one and every one no matter the reason to attempt to help. Which is what the church should be about.

The Pastor tells his members to do and not do ALOT of things that are not followed.

The body of believers where I attend, do a fantastic job taking care of our members. We help with any "real" need of our body. We aid the community in many ways and spend 20% of our budget on mission trips that are, for the most part, service oriented.

Do people in your church piss and moan about 10, 15 or 20% tithing?

Is everybody that tithes as blessed as you are? I'm only asking because you say this as a "cause/effect" matter-of-fact kind of way.

And as a side question, is everybody that isn't as blessed as you are just as responsible, hard-working, and intelligent as you?
