I'm not claiming to be biblical scholar. I was just asking. The churches I went to growing up, were like this. I'm not trying to start a debate. That's the first time I've heard of some these things on your posts. I thought maybe something had changed.
The church is not a building, the church are the followers(saved) of Christ.
Christ is the head and leads the church.
I agree with you. It's been a while since I went to church. I was brought up in a very strict Independent Baptist home. I question a lot of the things I was taught.
If I questioned something I was told the following....... "Because the preacher says so."
I feel your absolute pain.
I grew up in a Distinctively Indy Baptist Church.
The church slogan is, What good baptists churches used to be, we still are.
Here's a few examples I was taught..........
1. Rock and country music is of the devil.
2. Alcohol and tobacco is of the devil. ( Even though they used wine for communion and two deacons smoked outside the church before coming in. )
3. Anything but a Republican is of the devil.
4. Dancing is of the devil. ( Footloose? )
5. Cussing is of the devil. ( Deacons )
6. Shorts and tank tops are of the devil.
7. T.v. is of the devil. ( Yet, everyone had one. Even our pastor. )
8. Any bible other than the KJV is of the devil.
9. You can only trust a preacher that wears cowboy boots. ( I'm not making that up. )
10. The Independent Baptist Church is the true Church. ( It's lineage can be traced back to Christ. )
11. Baptism by submersion only.
12. Lord's Supper for church members only. No outsiders.
13. Christmas is of the devil and shouldn't be celebrated.
I could go on, but why? I think you see why I question some of these.
It doesn't, why?
And why does tithing need to happen at an organized church.

If you actually went somewhere on Sundays that is what they tell you...despite what you personally believe. And they cite chapter and verse.
Let me ask you this, since you think walled churches are so horrible at actually doing God's work for their flock, do you think they should enjoy tax exempt status?
My Church has 8,000 members. Only 10% of us tithe and we met our 3.7 million budget last year. The tithe is a choice made by each Christian. It is between that person and God. I am 100% sure that I have been so blessed in my life because I tithe.
