Supreme Court kills affirmative action in university admissions

There are very few protections against systemic racial discrimination. There are so many legitimate reasons to reject a student applicant, that unless discrimination is exposed on an audio recording or expressly endorsed in an e-mail ... racial discrimination can be very hard to prove. This was a real problem that black college applicants encountered in the 1960's.

Some of you act like racial discrimination has never been a problem for black college applicants. Why do you think we needed HBC's? This forum should be called Archie Bunker's Place.
So you aren't worried about the asian's getting rejected from college because they are asian in 2023? or whenever this case started.

i love the racism coming out from the Dem's right now. We have to protect the minorities! Well only some minorities, its should be constitutional to discriminate against Asians because they are Asian. How dare the SC take away our ability to discriminate against Asians.

Like I said ... this is Archie Bunker's Place. Old and out-of-touch ... and some of you only like black people when they are keeping their mouths shut and helping your favorite sport's teams win games.

Horse 💩. I believe in complete and total equality. Like many I’m sick of the constant victimhood. How often do you go out of your way to have important things taken care of by minorities instead of the best available?

Like I said ... this is Archie Bunker's Place. Old and out-of-touch ... and some of you only like black people when they are keeping their mouths shut and helping your favorite sport's teams win games.

And some of you only like them when they vote lock step with a certain party. The ones that rebel or think for themselves are Uncle Toms….or worse.

... and Republicans think they will make some gains with black voters in 2024? What a joke.
Not any Republican that is paying any attention does. Ya'll have a great system of keeping blacks ignorant and dependent. The proof is in the pudding of exactly what you are saying. They will vote for dems time and time again and never see any improvement in their lives.

Black unemployment was lowest in history under Trump. Q.E.D., and checkmate.

That's what YOU interpret Affirmative Action to be.

That has never been what the vast majority of African-Americans interpret Affirmative Action to be.
LOL Of course they don't. Just like welfare recipients view that check they are getting as being 'paid'.

I understand now. I wasn’t picking up what you were saying with regard to the Courts current view of the impact argument. Thanks.

I would bet they’ll still make some noise if they can demonstrate an actual Asian, -6.

I guess from the University’s perspective, you could end up with a bunch of poor black kids and a mix of poor and rich white/Asian kids and a few outliers, and that may not be desirable, either.

Not like any of those.....they're all pretty stupid.

I'll give you guys the best analogy I can think of at the momment.

View it as a big relay race.
The team in white jumped the gun and started the race before any of the other teams had even taken their positions on the track.
The race could not be stopped and restarted.
It was decided that the fairest thing was to stop the team in white for a period that came close to matching their head start.
The guy running the second leg for the team in white had the batton and could be heard screaming, "this isn't fair, I did nothing wrong, it was our first leg."
Meanwhile, there was great debate and no agreement over when the race should fully resume for the team in white.
Your racism is on full, glorious display.

I know the Feds guarantee the loans but if the loan has to be paid back in full with interest how can you consider that subsidized?
Like an FHA loan, right. Fed backing, fed rules even though the borrower pays it all.

You can whine about it, if you want to ...

Affirmative Action is very popular within the black community. The polls have consistently shown that for decades now.
So they have had this artificial leg up for "decades" (your word), and are still behind? "Decades" can also be replaced with the word "generations" - at least 1 or 2 - and yet they still still need an artificial leg up. Maybe what needs to change is attitude and culture within that community and they should look up to and try to emulate people like Ben Carson and not Lebron James.

I asked because we have friends and their son wasn’t admitted to MIT. He’s going to TN Tech for Electrical Engineering and he’s convinced he’ll never have the opportunities he’d have had if he’d gotten into MIT.
A degree from MIT is kind of special. Hayseed that I was, when I was about to graduate from UTK in 1976 that was the only graduate school I applied to and I turned down a full fellowship to go make money with my BS. The road not taken. But TT has a good reputation from what I hear. I expect he will have plenty of opportunities if he has a halfway decent GPA and interviews well. This country needs engineers!

Don’t worry. The Department of Education gonna help em get around that “not normal court”.

The president also announced he will direct the Department of Education to examine how universities can effectively encourage diversity after the Supreme Court decision.

Rice is an excellent school. Just curious, is there much drop off from A&M to Texas Tech?
Texas Tech must be pretty good but being in Lubbock may not be so exciting. One of our biggest customers is based in Midland TX and builds plants to make Renewable Natural Gas from landfill gas and is growing like hell. They’ve hired most of their engineers from Texas Tech.
