Supreme Court strikes down federal law prohibiting sports gambling

Oh heck no, not everyone needs a college degree! I'm ABD right now because of degree creep (can't prepare the next generation of teachers without being Piled higher and Deeper!). And because I want a doctorate, but that's just me.

I would love to see a shift back towards strong vocational education with an emphasis on apprenticeships and craftsmanship. My younger brother went that route and is making more with an Associate's than I will with a PhD. I see too many undergrads who are "doing college" because they don't know what else to do. Not undecided, but completely lost. We can't afford that. There are much better ways.
I think that they need to make it harder to get a teaching degree in college. Make it a 5 year program. Specialize it. Enough with this Masters and PhD crap to teach High School. Put discipline back in the schools, develop tech schools, specialize teachers vs. make them get extra degrees, get rid of the millions of extra and unneeded admins in the school system, cap admin salaries as a percentage of the teachers salaries, etc. There is a whole crap ton of common sense things that can be done in this country nearly overnight that would improve education immediately.

What specifically would you like to know?
Curious how you have been in law enforcement for 20 years and have never heard of a death associated with gambling. They will return and soon. Deaths around casinos have been happening since the turn of the century. Not so much lately maybe but the internet is the new casino. They will come back.

Are you talking about suicides or murder?

The entire first part of the 20th century was filled with deaths associated with organized crime around gambling and alcohol among other things. I'm just saying for a 20 year Police Officer Vet to have not seen a single death associated with gambling is difficult to believe.

I haven't read through this thread so forgive the question. Are you opposed to online or even casino gambling because of it?
No, the poster that I was replying to was stating that the drug problem was much worse than gambling due to the number of deaths that he was aware of associated with each issue. I'm not doubting Gunner as he is a very good poster, I just asked him to reconsider his stance that gambling and gambling addiction do not lead to as many deaths just because he personally had not seen them. When gambling goes nationwide.....every state legalizes it both casino and online, I believe the deaths associated with it will climb rapidly. I don't think they will rival drugs at all but there will be deaths associated with it.

Drug use/abuse including marijuana are the cause of approximately 80 percent of the violent crime in this country. Gambling may be a factor in some of these crimes as is alcohol use/abuse because they often go together, but it’s the use/abuse of illicit drugs that causes the violent crimes.

Source?

That’s not new information, please do your own research and you will soon learn that the world would be a much better and safer place without drugs and alcohol.
Then you should easily be able to provide a source for your claim

I don't gamble much anymore, but I like the idea of states deciding for themselves whether or not to allow it.

It's hard for me to imagine legalized gambling in Tennessee anytime soon, though.
It’s easy if you try
