Suspensions Announced

I'll give Foster the benefit of the doubt, and assume he was a designated driver and was breaking up a fight. Its not like he has had disciplinary problems before.

highonhogs, of course you would say that.

I have heard about 50 variations of what happened Saturday night so to make the statement that the suspensions were totally based on importance to the team is ludicrous.

For the Vol fans who think the penalty should have been more severe, please state why? Is this another case of negativity towards the Vols? I don't get it, why do you want it to be more severe?????

The hog fans are all excited since this is the first time their football team has been ranked since they have been alive. Humor them.

I've said it before and will say it again. You can tell the program has not been a winning one by their fans' arrogance and overconfidence from a little bit of success, when in reality they are johnny-come-latelies. I place them on same level as the Gamecock faithful . . . enthusiastic, but a little success GOES TO THEIR HEADS QUICKLY.

Arkansas fans have a reason to be so enthusiastic this year. I don't blame them..

these suspension are fair. i am sure Fulmer and Hamilton based their desicions on having all the facts. not just the hear say that seems to be going on around here.

as for the Arkansas fans having a say in this, worry about your team we'll see you around here again next year.

Based on the article linked on the front page, the suspensions mirror the # of charges/infractions each player had.

Foster - underage drinking
Holbert - underage drinking and fighting
Wardlow - public intox and fighting.

You can quibble about whether or not the punishments fit the crime but there is reason for differing levels of suspensions and the starter was the one with the least infractions.

I dont know if Foster should be suspended at all. 1/2 is acceptable but no more than that He was the one breaking up the fight, the cops saw him "pushing" but he was just trying to break it up.

No offense to your program, but I think that's absolutely unacceptable, that's like a slap on the hand, a first half of a game. that's srsly lollerskates...

If what he did was break up a fight, why should he be punished the same as the two who were fighting?

There's nothing wrong with these guys being allowed to blow off a little steam.

It's not like they were caught with guns and stolen checks running around in an Escalade.

Leave the young men alone. They'll be fine.

I don't have the heart to tell them Foster isn't the best RB on the team.

Funny that someone from as liberal an area as Northern California would be that sarcastic about some college kids having a few beers and getting into it at a bar. Maybe if they would have just gotten high and kissed each other you'd approve?

It just seems to me that no one around here is ever happy. Look, ya'll: 3 of our guys made some bad decisions after the game Saturday night. None of us (apparently) know the whole story, but Fulmer et al did exactly what I would want them to do: They gathered information without making a snap judgment, met with the team, and handed out punishment accordingly. As with any disciplinary action, the nature of the infractions should be taken into account. If Foster was really trying to break up an altercation, then he should be punished for drinking under-age. It appears that the other two were a little more involved, and should be handled more severely.

What would the dissenters around here like to see done?

They were not behind the wheel, and they were not even fighting at the time. The suspensions seemed to fit the offense.

I think the most punishable offense in the entire situation is the fact that they were out at 3 am.

Totally agree with you there, Lex. One thing I have learned via college, time in the ER at The Med, and growing older, is that very little good happens between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m.

it bothers me that they were out that late after a loss, but who i am to tell somebody what they can and can't do. plus, there was no curfew, so they are free to do and go where they please.

Incorrect. They are free to do and go where is legally permissible. Those freedoms do NOT include drinking underage and fighting at a bar.

Just trying to bring a little common sense to the situation Doozer. Doc hit the nail on the head. The longer you stay out after midnight the greater your chances of running into trouble (sometimes without even looking for it). How many times have you heard of a pro player shooting at someone outside a strip club at 5:30 in the evening.

Darkness provides cover for nefarious not so well intended people. I see nothing wrong with encouraging good habits with these players in their formative years. It might just save their lives when they are making millions in the NFL.
