Obama released a whole bunch of prisoners as one of his early efforts to draw down US involvement. What? Un-thought-out withdrawls plans have nasty consequences you dont say?

A lot of the ex prisoners ended up in Syria. Those ex prisoners took over a lot of the militia groups fighting Assad after he released some of his own prisoners. Those guys became ISIS. ISIS who Assad ignored and largely went after the smaller ethnic and cultural groups in Syria, including the Kurds.

The longer you pull the chain of events over there the worse it gets for the US.
